Over at my local game store they got a new 4 game Neo Geo cab, and one of the games I particularly like is Magical Drop 3. Anyone else have some experience and maybe some tips on this puzzler?
Hellyeah! I love that game. Magical Drop 2 also got a wonderful port on the Super Famicom. I think 2 and 3 are easily among the top puzzlers of all time, right next to Puyo Puyo 2 and Bust-A-Move. It's all about chaining in the game and staying on the move. The more you familiarize yourself with the special icons the better too. Especially the ones that take out an entire color on screen- try to spot those immediately when you see a new row coming in and work your way towards it. When you get of those you can chain you ass off too
Totally. I love puzzle games in general but magical drop really gets you going. It's totally frantic sometimes haha. Played about 8 games today and I'm getting a little better. Hope to get 100,000 soon enough. And thanks for the reply!
Yeah, I like both equally. I've been starting to be able to get around 250,000 on Magical Drop 3 now, just have to get 1st on the scoreboard with 300,000!
I like the Magical Drop series. But I only really discovered it because everyone on Internet forums in the early 2000s would use an edited version of this gif from the game as an avatar: It always drove me crazy, where the hell was this sprite from??
Sorry to bump the MD3 thread, just as an update. I've figured out the strategy to get scores of 400,000 points or more every game. Works for me most games and now my high score is 563,000 points, beating the entire game with no continues and even beating the Black Poirot. It's all in the way you make the combos Getting a full MVS supergun setup soon so we'll see how I am with regular practice! Hoping to hold a local tournament for Magical Drop 3 if anyone in the pacific northwest is interested.
