I first caught on to this show when it started airing on SciFi network since it coincided with us getting a satellite. All in all, I'd have to say this was probably one of my favorite shows growing up. It got me through a lot of hard times and I would say is probably the main source of my appreciation for good dry humor.

I had heard of the website rifftrax.com owned by Mike Nelson for quite some time but just now managed to venture over to it earlier this morning. I have to say, being a big mstie, it is awesome. I bought x-men, downloaded it, and fired up my roomates copy of the movie. There came a point some years ago when I finally accepted the fact the show would never return and that all that was left was memories. After watching the movie this evening, I was over joyed at the fact the show was back (almost). I highly recommend this rifftrax if you're a fan of MST or have fond memories of it. I never thought I would say this in a million years, but I actually look *forward* to watching Crossroads with Brittany Spears.

So any other msties on this board?

I never thought that they would touch Star Wars or any other high profile movie because of the lawsuits. I guess if you aren't actually including any portion of the movie, then there is nothing to fear. I might have to try one or two of these...

I remember an interview with the guys along time ago where they mentioned that there was a ton of movies that they would love to riff but couldn't because of obvious hurdles in obtaining the movie rights. Now with this way they finally get to do whatever they want without any legal worries. It's by no means perfect (I miss the silhouette visual gags and the movie interludes) but about five minutes into X-Men, I became completely immersed and forgot anything about the show being cancelled.

    "More exciting hospital gurney action!"

I loved that show! I started watching it in 5th or 6th grade when it was on Comedy Central late at night on Saturday (or Sunday morning depending on how you look at it). When I found out that they auctioned off all of the props, well after the fact, I was pretty bummed that I missed it. I didn't know about the site though, thanks!

Ahh, I remember when stuff got auctioned off from the scifi era. It almost coincided with the airing of the very last episode (it was either shortly before it aired or shortly after). This was in 1999, before ebay was all that (I remember the "auction counter" on the front page and I think they had just barely broke 2 million completed auctions). They had the stuff from MST listed on the front page but not alot of people bid on it. I remember many of the props used on the set as well as some spare robot parts only going for $10-$20. I think the most expensive thing that went was [one of] the Satellite of Love models which didn't even break the $1000 mark. An interesting anecdote is that there were a few things, mostly personal belongings of the cast members, that ended up for auction that shouldn't have. Mike Nelson recounts this in his recent audio interview with somethingawful.com (link). This interview was what actually pushed me to finally go check out rifftrax and finally discover what it really was all about.

I think I'm going to call up some friends and do the Matrix tonight.

"Slab Bulkhead... Fist Rockbone... Dirk Hardpec..."

Yeah, I thought that was probably my favorite next to Time Chasers... until I watched The Matrix last night. The timing of each joke was just too perfect. Best MST I've ever seen (I'd say I've watched about 75% of them starting from the comedy central days). The message board over at rifftrax seems to indicate that they get even better with Phantom Menace and Start Trek V.

Like any other mst3k fan I'm overjoyed that the show is "back". When I first heard of Rifftrax the only one involved was Nelson, and while he's good at what he does it's just not the same when there isn't atleast one other person for him to interact with. Once I learned that Kevin Murpy was on board I couldn't wait to download a couple.

So far I've seen Star Trek V(which was hilarious) and the Matrix(which I didn't care for too much). Though that has more to do with the general B movie feel of Star Trek V then it does with the quality of the jokes in the Matrix Rifftrax.

The only thing to complain about is that it's always Nelson either by himself or with Corbet or Murphy, never all three of them. Hopefully in the future they will do some releases together.
