I'm looking for any videos of the unreleased PC version of Rave Racer for PowerVR. There was an article in EDGE and Next Generation from 1995 on it, right here:

As far as i know, there isn't any known footage. If i remember correctly, i read somewwhere that the game was going to be released among other Namco classics like Ace Combat 22 and Tekken.

You're right, Air Combat 22 and Tekken (or Tekken 2) was meant to be released along with Rave Racer:

NEC and VideoLogic Enter 3D Warzone

The battle to gain control of the burgeoning graphics acceleration
market on the PC is hotting up.

Following the arrival of Diamond's Edge card incorporating the Nvidia
chip and bundled Sega software, NEC and VideoLogic are now set to
announce the release date and full specifications of their PowerVR
chip, a scalable high-spec 3D acceleration system.

PowerVR provides fast rendering with the now required selection of 3D
effects: Gouraud Shading, true-color modes, rotation and scaling. The
unique thing about it though is the way it goes about creating such
effects.

Trevor Wing, group marketing director, said: "There are some special
things about the architecture that are unique to PowerVR. We use what
we call a reduced level of architecture which means we eliminate the
z-buffer and all the memory hassles associated with it.

However we do have a 32-bit accurate z-buffer function so we forfeit
none of its capabilities. Also, because we use an infinite plane-based
algorithm - which is different to those used by other chips - we don't
need to have anything near the access to the texture memory. This
means that our performance is a lot higher. In fact pick a given
performance point and we'll be cheaper because we're not carrying the
memory. We'll double the performance of others."

Nevertheless, all companies producing graphics hardware realise that
no matter how marvellous a chip may be internally, it will get nowhere
without some great software. nVidia has benefited immensely from the
involvement of Sega with the Edge card, a near-perfect port of Virtua
Fighter Remix could only have helped in their quest to initialise a
world standard in graphics add-ons.

However, the PowerVR system will get a similarly powerful ally given
that Namco and NEC have already announced their alliance. Rave Racer,
Tekken and Air Combat 22 are all now complete and ready for release in
May for the PowerVR system. VideoLogic claims that these conversions
are not only faithful to their arcade predecessors, they actually
surpass them. "If you take arcade Rave Racer and make it a little more
solid and a little faster the you've got the idea. It's better than
the arcade version."

The PowerVR architecture allows content developers to create a single game for a variety of system platforms, speeding time-to-market. It takes a revolutionary approach to 3D graphics systems design. Typically, 3D controllers require three memory systems: Z-buffer, texture and frame-buffer memory. NEC and VideoLogic have eliminated the Z-buffer memory requirement and reduced the other memory bandwidth requirements. The result is a nearly limitleÃŸ performance increase.

The PowerVR architecture offers a performance level of up to 1 million textured and shaded polygons per second, based on 8 Giga operations per second proceÃŸing speed delivering 3D rendered scenes at 640 x 480 resolution at 30 frames-per-second (fps) and 16.7 million colors (true color) with every pixel mip mapped, textured, fogged, lit and shaded.

Content Developers and Add-in Board Manufacturers Pick PowerVR

A wide range of content developers and add-in board manufacturers have announced or pledged their support for the PowerVR architecture.

In November, 1995, Namco Limited, the leading arcade game manufacturer, announced it will be porting games such as Rave Racer, Air Combat 22 and Tekken to PowerVR. Other companies announcing their support for PowerVR include: Activision, Looking GlaÃŸ Technologies, Inc., Mindscape Bordeaux, Mindscape, International, Psygnosis Ltd.; Gremlin Interactive Limited and Virtuality KK. Additionally, VideoLogic and NEC Home Electronics have all indicated they will be announcing add-in graphics boards for PCs later this year.

Software Support

NEC's 3D graphics proceÃŸors are compatible with application programming interfaces (APIs) including Microsoft Direct3D and PowerVR SGL, a powerful, high-level API developed by VideoLogic and NEC.

Pricing, Packaging and Availability

NEC's single-chip PCX1 is slated for sampling in Q2 '96 and volume in Q3 '96. Volume price is expected to be leÃŸ than $50 in quantities of 10,000 per month by the end of 1996 or the beginning of 1997. Packaging is 208-pin, plastic quad flat pack (PQFP).

Is Rave Racer anything like Rage Racer? Rage Racer was released on PS1 slightly before that Q1 97 release of Rave Racer. Maybe they changed the name for some reason.

They probably did turn it into Rage Racer. I guess they added so much stuff they decided not to call it Rave Racer anymore. Rage Racer was a lazy re-name tho. Almost as lazy as naming that one game Ridge Racers.

Speaking of Ridge Racer, I really wish I liked Ridge Racer 4 for PS1. I got it and really wanted to like it. Since it had so much content and great graphics. I just couldn't get into it.
