Component cable for GC is going over $100 on eBay and Nintendo quit making these a few years ago :suspicion: Since the video chip for component is inside the cable plug and not inside GC, doing a hack to remove propriety digital AV port and install regular RCA jacks will not work, is there a cheap way to get component out of GC or am I better off looking for an used WII with GC support? New Wii left out GC support (no controller ports, no memory card ports, no hardware to play GC games)
The internal hardware hasn't changed on the Wii. At all. There is absolutely no way to get component out of the GC without that cable.
Ok thanks. So where can I find a guide for modding Wii to be GC compatible? I have dead GC for parts (if that works) and if I get a new Wii I'd like to hack it.
http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=770 It is possible without the component cable, but finding the chips required to do so is extremely difficult, as they were custom made by Macronix for Nintendo.
I wouldn't recommend normal users go through the effort to install GC ports in a new Wii. Gamecubes and old Wii's are so numerous. Should you must have a new Wii with GC ports, Japan is one 100% certain way to find it. The update model hasn't released there. If you don't mind ridiculous cost...
Reinstalling the ports is just part 1. There are a number of SMD components that need to be installed as well. This is absolutely NOT "my first soldering" project or even part of soldering 101. Maybe Soldering 201 or 301.
Agree forget even attempting the mod, a lot of hacking and then worries of making the Gamecube chips interface with the Wii. Just buy a Horizontal Wii and gain not only Gamecube support, but more importantly Gamecube controller support for some Wii games. Taken a step further, a Gamecube to PS1 controller adapter. Play supported Wii games with a Sony Arcade stick. I fly Wii Skycrawlers with a PS1 Flightstick, yes the Dual Analog!
The japanese official d-terminal cable can also be modified to be used as a component or vga cable but unfortunately that is pricey these days too.
