As my interest in new Anime Wanes and my interest in old anime grows, the idea of getting a Laserdisc player popped in my head again. Hell I even found framemiester settings for Laserdisc players. My interest in anime is pretty much limited only to the 1980s and 1990s lately. The golden age of anime when character designs still had noses and animators could be bothered to draw nipples (looking at you Berserk 2016) But with Discotek Media releasing tons of old stuff on DVD and Blu Ray now, I'm sure some of the stuff I'd look into will get released. It's still a topic of interest and I'm sure there's stuff that's unrelased on DVD and Blu Ray I could still check out. Thoughts?
I'm gonna have to hold back my quality whore habits for this thread The stuff you have on Laserdisc has a high chance of being edited in *some* way on a rerelease if I've learned anything on Laserdiscs. Your best bet is to ensure you back those Laserdiscs up pronto with some good encoders. Get those RAWs in lossless quality before issues arise. Remember Roger Rabbit and Betty Boop's Laserdisc "eastereggs"?
I got a few DBZ ones, but I'd hardly call it a collection yet. I think it's a cool format, just for the experience of taking the disc out of the sleeve and popping it in. Also they are nice to display on the shelf. Just make sure you get a player with "auto reverse".
Did you know they had rewritables? I didn't for a while but realized they did when looking into some dead formats. Yet we dont have DL-DVD-RW, only DL-DVD+R
I did but I don't know much about it. I've seen a couple pictures of the discs but I don't know really anything about the writers and stuff. I wish it took off more than it did, I would love to be able to buy a writer/blank discs
I have a few anime LDs, picked them up simply because they were cheap at a Half Price Books some years back. Never had a player back when they were current and don't have one now. Might try to pick one up at some point for the hell of it, but it isn't really a priority.
