are you just trying to download random files or are you looking to mass download from filesharing sites?

If you just want something to manage day to day downloads, I've been using Orbit Downloader and like it, it also includes Grab+ that can usually sniff out streaming media info and download them for you.

If you want to download multiple files from say rapidshare/megaupload, then I recommend JDownloader, works very well, constantly updated to work with site changes, supports premium logins if you have em, can bypass most captchas, etc

The size is irrelevant. What are you trying to download? What protocol?

I prefer jdownloader, it works for pretty much anything, including filesharing sites.

It's the best in my honest opinion, even though it's written in java.

If you're using free HTTP hosts then jdownloader is what you want. As regards your request for direct links to pirated anime, that's obviously against site rules and you should know better.

I'm guessing he is more likely referring to fansubs than straight up pirating domestically available anime.

Have you tried DownThemAll? It's a plugin for Firefox.

Why not just get the torrents from Animesuki.com?

Download managers are riddled with spyware, generally.

DownThemAll is no use for free HTTP hosts like RapidShare or MegaUpload.

You could get the "skipscreen" plugin for firefox. That helps those Megaupload and rapidshit and whatever

Jdownloader is the best, and I'm going to stick to that. For FTP servers, just purchase something like CuteFTP and get a "subscription" over at Nationalanime, haha.

I can agree with downloading anime to an extent.. If you're not able to buy the anime in the country you live in, and you don't understand Japanese, fansubs are the way to go for the more obscure animes.

However, I've seen DVDs for sale in the US that do have the Japanese audio, and you can enable English subtitles.

As others have said, JDownloader is the way to go for downloading from sites like MegaUpload, Rapidshare etc. You can copy+paste links en masse and it will add them to it's download list, it will automatically defeat CAPTCHA protection for most of these sites, can combine multi-part files together and extract the archive afterwards.

It also has a pretty smart URL parser, so if you want to grab links that aren't easy to copy-and-paste you can just grab the relevant chunk out of the page source and it'll pick out the links itself.
