While checking out some of classic gamings hosted sites, i cam across this one known as segafans, has some good info adn videos and such, anyway i decieded to go to the video section of their site and low and behold in the vf section there is small footage clip of virtua fighter 3 on saturn. Mind you the quality is quite visible but is from an old vhs tape of someone taping it secretly, though i must admit there might be some room for debate on whete the footage on the show floor is running on saturn, but judging by the background that pai and jacky are fighting in, it definetly is saturn. anyway heres the link http://www.classicgaming.com/saturn/content/vault/videos/virtua_fighter/index.shtml you will need to have a fileplanet account (which is free to sing up) as well when downloading it from fileplanet, choose the east coast server as it actually has the clip on there, of course if anybody wants, i can upload the video to an ftp or site. Hope this helps those wanting to get an idea of how the port was shapping up.
hahahaha, sorry mate but File Planet are talking bull shit ! Those images are taken from E3 1997 or there abouts. They are Model 3 shots. I have the real video and I tell you it's 100% Model 3 not Saturn at all. Yet more bull from those in the industry that think they know everything. Yakumo
i had a feeling it might be a fake, im guessing the stage wasnt fully comlete, still im curious if the next virtu fighter am2 will give a nod like they did with shenmue 2 and show the saturn version, sorry to jump the gun.
I've mentioned the mislabelling of that footage at the site (SegaFans) before, and as Yakumo said it is actually sourced from an early version of Virtua Fighter 3 running on the Model 3 arcade board - not the Saturn, which despite having two complete builds has yet to publically surface in any form. You can find the exact same video sequence as part of a longer "history" clip hidden on the Dreamcast edition of VF3 Team Battle and ironically AM2 claimed that the featured character movement demonstrations were in fact produced WITHOUT any texture mapping. According to a report in the UK official Sega Saturn magazine (for the record, it was issue seven), the only detail on the fighters was created by using various light sourcing effects and Gouraud Shading techniques. Unlike certain other companies as of late (and I'm mentioning no names, Sony - whoops!), Sega isn't known for exaggerating the capabilities of its own hardware. Considering how long it took for the Model 3 to be matched in terms of sheer processing power, I really wouldn't be too surprised if these claims happen to be true. After all, compare this sequence to the final game and you can't help but notice the fact that the skin tones seem to have benefitted from a little extra colour. While it may not be the holy grail for Saturn-era VF fanatics, I'd still be more than pleased if this early Model 3 code was somehow leaked as the unrivalled quality of the platform can't be appreciated fully by just watching some badly compressed videos...
Hey! Wait! Don't go! If you pay me 20 dollars, I can jump you ahead of everybody else, right to the top of the fileplanet hating club! No waiting! Slots available!
I am quite certain Virtua Fighter 3 Saturn footage never got any further than Sega's offices, and only a few people ever got to see it running.
Yeah i just watched the history clip and your right it is part of it, didnt see how i didnt notice, probably the color on the tape being off.
