People can click a thanks button and it encourages good quality posts. Also feels like a pat on the back when you get a thanks. Many forums use it now. I believe it is easy to implement. Just a thought.
there's reputation already that works like thanks/reprimands... but nobody's uses it. i guess it would be the same with the thanks.
As above thre is a rep system. For information, dumping deuce, the DTL-S4023 and som buying and selling nice things I've only had +2 rep in 8 years It doesn't bother me though as people say thanks in differnt ways and like me they don't know or care about such systems. Bottom line though is the system is here just no one cares enough baout it to use it. If you'd like to see it used more often, use it yourself and maybe it will catch on but I doubt it
No, the thanks button usuallY is below and to the right of each post, and people do use it. An example is: Www.modmyi.com It just counts thanks... Not complex karma etc...
Seen it before but I don't think anyone here really cares. It's a fairly gimmick free forum. IMO post counts, rep and thanks buttons just lead to bragging rights and feelings of self importance on a site. Fine for IGN and elsewhere here everyone earns respect and thanks the old fashioned way. Some of the best content on this forum has been posted by people with post and rep counts so low you'd think they'd just joined. If you do something worthwhile here you'll be remembered for it and people will trust you, that's all that counts. I wouldn't walk down the street wearing a t-shirt or a badge saying 100 people thanked me this week so I don't see why I should here. If you really want to thank someone for something they do or contribute, send them a PM with a personal message, it's far better than spending half a second clicking a button. Although this is a fairly ironic statement seeing as I'm talking to you all on the internet but I hate the fact that forum "thank's buttons" Facebook "likes" and Twitter retweets are slowly cheapening and killing basic human interaction. Rant over.
People don't make use of such things. For example, I have bought and sold to a bunch of people on this forum but zero feedback. It's just the way of things.
Okay. Well it was an idea and there were plenty of good reasons against it. I would say I tend to agree with it being gimmicky more than before as well, as you have all argued your point well.
I've had +rep and neutral rep. I've used it a few times on really great posts and really craptastic posts.
Why can't people just type their thank you... well, in their post? Does a number detailing how many times you have been thanked really make you feel better than a genuine thank you that wasn't a simple button press? And this site has rep?
I'd say most posts are at least a +1 here in comparison to 90% of the posts on a lot of the "popular" sites. So unless you're getting scolded, just assume "Thanks, you're welcome!"
Shouldn't this be in user feedback? I'm also of the impression that it's just gimmicky, I'm afraid. Most posts don't require thanks.
This was used on a forum I used to visit. It was much more visible and therefore used alot more. The rep system isn't very noticeable.
I'm going to start clicking that button when I think of it. Even if it doesn't actually matter in a community sense ("Oh, man, that guy I already respected... is... respected......!!), maybe individuals will have a little extra light in their day if they notice they've had some bonus points for being awesome. I think we should all surreptitiously use it more.
