I am sure members of the Nazi party were employed by US immigration, I remember using a loophole so I could go and work in a round about way in the states (was getting paid by a UK company), just left every 90 days and went for a fortnights holiday in Japan. I confirmed this clause with the US embassy in London and all seemed cool, in fact Chicago immigration was cool as was Seattle but San Francisco immigration were like 100 questions and they seem to get pissed off when I quoted the exact parts of the immigration act that allowed me to do what I was doing, even though I could show them copies of the contract, my work contact and UK bank statements, one little hitler was threatening me with detention, possible prosecution and deportation. After an hour of asking me the same questions (I assume trying to catch me out), I get to see the head immigration officer who asked me the same questions... but then stamped my passport, wrote that I need to apply for a visa next time and sent me on my way, and did I hear sorry? Hahaha

I scribbled it out and got into Seattle fine...

The ones that work in the offices and phones are high school dropouts.

That's for sure. Most airport jobs in general in this country are pretty low paid.

Immigration officials are absolutely not high school drop outs. They just have a bad attitude because they are paid to be that way.

So you don't have to have a degree to go into Japan then? I mean, how about farming.. Surely if someone thought they could do with me full time on a farm, then that would be alright as I would be in a paid job.. Or Does Japan's boarder have a say in if im aloud in the country?

Why exactly do you want to go to Japan anyway? Working low-paid labor on a farm which is presumably out in the middle of nowhere doesn't sound like what we colloquially call "fun".

-8 months to send a card to the right address (right region even).
    -Can't spell "Honolulu", or "Curtis".
-Polar opposite answers to questions on each subsequent phone call.

The markings of true genius, definitely. The 45 minute wait to talk to part of the think tank doesn't help.

The underlying notion of gaining a long term work visa is that the employer has to show why they're hiring a foreigner over a Japanese. Since foreign language is hardly necessary for the farming world, you'd need to bring some ninja farming moves on the table... on paper, anyway. Good luck with that.

    Graphique:

Well, see there's where me and some of you differ. I would love to live with nature. Just because it's a low paid job, doesn't mean its a shit job. I would rather work in natural hard labour (outside only, not labour as in factories). Because then you got your land, fresh air, hardly anyone to piss you off, work when you want, than to work in some sweaty office 9 - 5, being a slave to some big ass corporation. Though, ofc there are other jobs that good as well, like teaching, but that too can be a stressful right when you got teenagers not wanting to learn.

    GaijinPunch:
True, it would be pretty hard to get a working visa for that type of work. Maybe if did a university course in farming (or something along those lines) it might be possible. But! as this current time, Im not looking for any permanent residence, for the moment I just want to take a gap year for as long as I can with a tourist visa or a working holiday visa. Time will tell whether i actually like Japanese farming compared to English farming.

    Bluehaze:
Its a good idea farming, however WOOF'ing does require a strong sense of self motiviation, you have to speak to the farms yourself, and arrange times and how long you would Like to stay, its up to them in the first week to actually allow you to stay or not. They can just say, 'we don't want you anymore' and you have to go immediately. (and hope you have another farm willing to let you in at short notice).

You don't have to have a degree to go to Japan. If you're working, you will need a visa that pertains to your job. A working holiday visa is an option for some people. I believe that Japan does allow people from the UK to get these visas, but I'm not 100% sure on that. There might be farms that hire foreigners, but you'd have to search really hard to find one if they even exist.

*I just typed "working holiday visa UK Japan" into google, and ironically a site about farm stays in Japan came up. So, maybe looking up "farm stay" might get you some results. It probably won't get you much money, but you'd definitely get some interesting experience!

I do find it humorous that money is not a big interest, yet you are a video game collector of sorts (I assume by virtue of being an active member on ASSEMbler), good luck with that! And please enjoy your stay at the farm : )

I don't think the UK has a program w/ Japan for working holiday. None of my UK friends ever had one. That I know. I'm thinking NZ, Australia, France maybe, and Canada. Someone chime in if I'm wrong.

I know for a fact that you can get the working holiday visum with a British nationality :) . Enough of my friends in Japan were all there on one.

There ya go. Maybe it was a recent change. Maybe not. Never knew anybody on one, but I also never knew any Brits in visa trouble either.

South Korea does, but I'm guessing you're not from there.

I just looked up the list, and you're in luck!

Here it is, and the year they joined the working holiday visa programme:
    Australia (1980)
    New Zealand (1985)
    Canada (1986)
    South Korea (1999)
    France (1999)
    Germany (2000)
    UK (2001)
    Ireland (2007)
    Denmark (2007)

Here's the official link, right from the Japanese government: http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/w_holiday/index.html

Seems like the Irish get the short end of the stick. They're part of the United Kingdom, but apparently don't get the same perks the British do.
