Been playing it for the last 2 days and man I'm hooked! already defeated the 3rd AI, took a while since I did some side missions to get recruits and build MSF. By far the best MGS I've played, much better than PortableOps What about you guys?
I've got two copies. =) 1 LE package(*) that i'm keeping sealed at the moment and a digital copy to play on my go. Loving the game so far. I'm not far into it at the moment (mission after rescuing chico) but it's because I only play play games for a few hours each day. (*) Not the system bundle (if only I had the $$$ to waste with out pissing off the wife), just the game LE that came with an art book.
You're in costa rica? It's cool though, the entire game is about the evil murrikans getting nukes to the peaceful "we ain't got no army, just like japan" costa rica, which is also apparently ridden with nicaraguan guerrillas who got pwn and had to GTFO of their country. Joking aside, as other MGS games it relies too much in 80s hollywood cliches, like the supposedly nicaraguan/costa rican people talking a mix of english with some spanish that no one does in real life, and the fact that all these characters look white, as WASP-white, not spanish not native nor black/african, which for that zone and considering the opressed ethnic groups that made most of the guerrillas, is pretty unrealistic. But well, so is most of the MGS universe (fucking unmanned robots in the 70s? we can't make that even today...)
Just beat this tonight. Very well done MGS game, but it gets very difficult towards the end of story mode if you play single player. Story is fantastic. Hideo was correct that this game was as big as a main console game which it is. The technology they have for the mechs is pretty insane since this takes place in the 70s, but midway through you forget all that and just enjoy it.
The whole AI and Railgun thing? There's nothing that says that technology couldn't exist ya know? They could've had technology that wouldn't be available commercially to the average people for over 20 years , Afterall the Patriots orchestrated the whole thing anyway. And the Railgun could've ended up having problems and not being reliable enough(Prone to failure and breaking down for example) for them to include it again until later models of Metal Gear like REX. (remember Granin Designed REX at least in the early 60's and it had the designs for the railgun even then) And as far as the AI goes, it makes sense, afterall it was all part of Cipher's AKA The Patriots plan. Electronic control of information and they are starting to develop their AI's specifically for that and it seems Operation Peace Walker was the testing As for MSF and Outer Heaven having their own Metal Gear this early. It was explained in MGS4 as well that Big Boss had Metal Gear built for the purpose of being a Deterrent against other world powers to show they were serious. In terms of Tx-55 and Metal Gear D, those only seem less significant in perspective due to the limitations of their origin being 2D games and over 20 years old. A lot of stuff was in the game for asthetic reasons or just because it could and is probably Non-Canon (like the Soliton Radar) I finished the game today after 46 hours. It was fantastic and it puts many pieces of the puzzle together and dislodges a few. But overall i'd give the game 9/10 Easy.
