Many times, I will get a game, get near the end or half way through, and then just stop playing it and go onto something else. Unless it is a major franchise I am a fan of (Sonic, Zelda, Metal Gear, Castlevania, etc), then I tend to do this. For example: I had gears of war since launch, got to the part before the train, and then just sort of went on to something else. Same with Resistance, only that is because I won't have anything else to play once I beat it. Then, with RPGs, I play it on and off. I'm about half way in Dragon Quest VIII, yet I have played it on and off since it's launch. With FFX and XII, it took me months of on/off play just to beat it. Same goes for games like Quake 4 and Half-Life 2, as well as games like Okami (Then again, Okami pisses me off a little). Anyone else have this problem when playing games?
I have the same problem with some games. In my opinion, it is usually due to poor planning on the game designers' part. Games should be able to keep a "hook" in you, make you want to come back for more or make you want to see how a story ends. Sadly, most games now seem to be geared towards better graphics.
Yeah. I can easily beat games like Zelda, Metal Gear, Pokemon, older sonic games, and games like KOTOR multiple times. Hell, to tell the truth, I have never beaten Halo or Halo 2, although I have played the multiplayer modes quite a few times.
Yes, I can think of several games that I have finished about half-way and just stopped playing. Eventually, I'll find my way back, progress a little, and stop again or finally finish the game. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this is pretty common for people who have been gaming for a long time.
Let's see: Zelda TP FF8 FF5 Liberty City Stories GTA:SA Phoenix Wright Trauma Center and god knows how many more. Trauma Center I put down as the game got too difficult and I didn't want to lay waste to my touch screen working faster. Phoenix Wright bores me with murder after murder, TP just can't capture me anymore, FF8 I got to the end of disk 2, save got wiped and I never got back into it. That and the story didn't make sense at points. The only games I've finished lately are Bully, GoW, and Dead Rising. DR I've played through twice completely and a third time for some achievements. I've got a ton of SMS and genny games I haven't finished and probably never will.
Happens with me. I can pull of several hours of Marathon gaming and not touch the game for months or even seasons. Lately I've been playing Morrowind GOTY edition like crazy. I beat the game over 20 hours or so ago on my profile, and made an instant death magic spell with a 50 foot radius before I got bored since my character couldn't be any more badass if I tried.
I am also horrible about that. Sometimes for me it's not the fact that game's design is bad or anything, it's just I get busy with other things, and then find myself finally having the time to play it like 4 days later. At times I also end up just staying on the computer the whole time before I ever get to any console games...>.< As of right now, I have plenty of Sega Saturn games I have yet to even put in my Saturn due to time. Ive been playing FF12 and Xenosaga III off and on since launch and finally beat FF12 today actually, and I'm near the end on Xenosaga III. Both great games, just have to find the time to play them. Still need to beat Front Mission 4 actually too... But I do understand your feelings, I would say it's only a normal thing, everyone gets bored or get caught up in things at some time.
I have this "problem" too. I've started Valkyrie Profile and Tales of Eternia on the PSP like three times each, but it seems I can't progress far in the game before leaving it alone. Last game I finished without stops was Mafia (PC version).
Thats funny. I just did that with Winback for hte PS2. I played the N64 version and beat that game all the way thru. I was on the last level. I died from a stupid laser beam and that just killed my interest in the game. So, I'm going to continue playing my Arc the Lad games. I'm about half way thru the first one that came out for the PS2 (Twilight of the Spirits). I don't plan on losing interest in that game and plan on beating it all the way through.
I think the first half or so of that game is terribly slow. I had my interest killed for almost a year when the final boss kept being cheap. Little did I know that it was extremely easy to grind in some areas of the final level and power level Maru to level 60 or 70. Speaking of probably not going to touch this game for a while is God of War. I started playing it like yesterday after having it almost an entire year! :110: So I make it to Ares. (This game is really short, imo, though I have to give props to 90% of the game being one giant dungeon full of interesting puzzles as well as the game having a GREAT art style, too. And the fact that its not really repetitive.) Really tough. One hit takes like 1/4 of the lifebar down!! I kill him and make it to his final form. I parry his Sword attack and I'm mashing the button as fast as I can. Then the game freezes. I was SO, SOOOOOOOO ticked. I instantly ejected the game and started playing something else. I don't really care if I beat Ares or not anyway, since I spoiled the ending for myself since I didn't want to have to do the whole thing over again. Right now, I'm playing Kingdom Hearts II (A game I've had since around April) and just starting out. I'll probably play on until I'm about finished with it, because once I get going on gaming, I usually won't stop. Speaking of God of War, when I bought it around January of last year, I also preordered Twilight Princess with it. Which turned out to be the longest preorder ever thanks to Nintendo. Anyways, its sort of funny that I played and beat the preorder first, which is also seven times longer (about) than the game I got with the preorder originally. Oh, and is it just me, or do all hack n' Slash games use the "Orb" system? Onimushas 1-3 used it, and God of War does, too.
