Everyone seems to hate both of the games :\ Yes the stories are weak, animation is choppy, music is sub par for Koshiro-sensei, games are too short, perspective is dumb, like 20 types of enemies in the whole game, the list goes on but I think it's quaint :)

Never played the Genesis/MD version, but on the Saturn, I just never could warm up to it. I got stuck midway through the game and lost interest in it.

I have the Megadrive version and i can tell:
Story is quite cool, animation is cool like a fighting game, music is quite novator for megadrive, perspective is cool, and many funky enemies...
In fact, I like this game very much... Don't know why you (seems to) dislike it...

I said it was quaint, I like them a lot even for all of their problems, theres just something about the series that's fun. If they fixed all the problems I mentioned, I think the game would easily be Zelda caliber. I haven't played through Thor for Sat but I was just on a Story of Thor (Mega Drive) kick. The mini games in Story of Thor can be extremely challenging, for the life of me I can't get Rank 1 in the Efreet race. It's so frustrating because the rest of the game is so easy, it's pissed me off more than any other game I've played in a long time, which I guess is a good thing ;) Just thought I'd get some word out about them

    Beyond Oasis

Hey! I have a lot fond memories of playing Beyond Oasis!
Best Z80a sound effect ever: The loud yell of a dying guard. "AAAAAHHHHHHHP!"

AWS told me it was real hard, I think. I still have it on my list of games I want to buy though.

Depends on how serious you are about the game. If you don't try to beat the game in under 2 hours while getting all 60 gems and infinite weapons then it's a really simple game. The puzzles aren't very difficult, the second game is more elaborate IMO. The first time I played Beyond, it took me around 8 hours to complete it with a shitty ranking and about half the items. The second time around it took only 3 while getting everything but a particular item which I still can't get. To get the highest rank in the game, you musn't level up, I'm sure that if you don't level up the game would be much harder, especially while you're after some hard to reach special items.

  8. Wow, I never heard anyone bash Beyond Oasis or even call it "quaint." In my opinion, it's one of the best action-RPGs ever. I think the animation and music are great, the storyline is totally interesting and the control/combo system is brilliant. I thought that was pretty widely agreed upon.

Many fewer people have play the Saturn game, but I thought it was just about as good as the original.

There's also a Game Gear incarnation that's turn-based and good as well.

I've heard that there was a GG game but I haven't been able to find it. If you search online for the series, there really isn't much of a fanbase and all of the reviews I could find, especially for the Saturn game, rate the game horribly.

I thought the Saturn version looked rather cool (it's even PAL optimized!)... never got into it very far though. I've got like a backload of 352 RPG's to play/finish :-(
