It's been almost 20 years since Policenauts has been released. I think it's time for a sequel, don't you? I'd really like an HD re-release of Snatcher and Policenauts, but I think I would like a sequel even more. I think another text adventure game would be pretty fun, but I have to admit the thought of a 3D game set in the Snatcher universe has a lot of potential. I imagine it could play a lot like L.A. Noire in a cyberpunk setting where you solve cases and do detective work all while figuring out who's a snatcher and who's human. I'd buy that day 1. So, does anyone else want to see a sequel to this underrated series?
Would be nice I suppose. But in the same style, no fancy current gen shenanigans. If you're looking for something like Snatcher but a little different, I recommend Marine Philt.
I'm just one guy with zero programming experience. It would take me half a lifetime to make a worthy sequel that does the series justice. I think something similar to LA Noire would be interesting, but I would be perfectly happy if they just made it play like the originals. I just looked up Marine Philt. Interesting game, too bad I don't know any Japanese. Unless there is a fan translation I don't know about, I doubt I can play it anytime soon.
At some points, Deus Ex Human Revolution has a very "Snatcher" feel. Or at least, I felt that way while I enjoyed it. No Neo-Kobe pizza, though.
Yeah, Deus Ex Human Revolution does have a bit of a Snatcher vibe to it. I'd loke to see a disc release of both Snatcher and Policenauts in a set with new HD graphics IN THE ORIGINAL STYLE. And the original OST for Policenauts too. Yakumo
Heh, I was in the mood for exactly that type of vibe for SUCH a long time, and it went unsatisfied - and I went and bought Deus Ex looking for a Metal Gear style Shooter/RPG hybrid. Needless to say, I was blown away.
Indeed Deus EX Human Revolution was a nice surprise. Hopefully i'll have time to play it and my other games next month. As for Snatcher / Policenauts, i doubt we'll ever see a remake.
If they do a remake, I hope they can bring back most of the old cast from Snatcher. For an 90's "anime" dub, it was done pretty well in my opinion. Plus, I can't imagine anyone else but Jeff Lupetin and Lucy Childs voicing Gillian Seed and Metal Gear. Yeah, from what I understand it has a very Blade Runner feel to it. I'm waiting to see if a GOTY version gets released with all the DLC. That's something I'm afraid of. I want a remake but I'm afraid they'd screw it up by drawing them in some style that doesn't work or look good. If they make it exactly the same as the original PC-98 version just in 1080p HD, then I have no problems. I'm fine with a new OST as long as they give us the option to use the old versions.
Policenauts still looks damn good, IMO they shouldn't really even change anything. I doubt they'll ever rerelease because of the effort needed to translate it...
But that's the thing. There shouldn't be any effort since fans have already done a great job doing most of the work for them. If I'm not mistaken, the people who worked on the translation said they would be willing to let Konami use the it, so the only thing they need to do is dub it in English. And technically they don't HAVE to do that either, so I can't see why lacking a translation would be a reason to hold back a rerelease.
Yeah, but fan translations aren't usually up to professional standards... They could MAYBE use it after having someone go through it really carefully.
I haven't played it in a while, but I remember being surprised at how official and professional the translation was. If it wasn't for everyone speaking Japanese, I could've been fooled into thinking the game was an official release by Konami. Maybe it's just not as good as I remember?
I was speaking about fan translations in general, I haven't seen the translation for Policenauts. Maybe it's one of the exceptions to the rule about fan translations.
Were policenaut's animations even recorded in film? else doing a HD version its going to take a lot of work, bet konami is just going to upscale the shit out of those old QVGA Saturn videos...
