Have any of you ever replaced the optical drive in an SCPH 9001? I am contemplating doing this repair for a friend and was wondering if anyone has tried it. I've repaired 1001s in the past and it's really easy, literally like 8 screwed to open the case and whatnot then disconnect ribbon and pop out... Is the 9001 any more complicated than that?

They are all the same - just the laser units have slightly longer or shorter ribbon cables. The process is identical across the board though.

Excellent, thanks. Seems trivial then. Any recommendations on suppliers or shall I just hit ebay?

    You are looking for KSM-440-AEM

I buy mine from ebay, had no troubles as of yet.

You can use the KSM-440-ADM or KSM-440-AEM without any problem ;)
Every laser it's compatible with all models, the only difference it's the lenght of the flat .
The ACM (early AAM too) have short flat cable and it's the worst optical drive. The BAM it's the last optical drive and "mature" of all drives, but have short flat too and you need to change the drive to fit in very well the prisoners (not obbligatory). The best IMHO it's the ADM because the original unit have a plastic cover under the drive that serves as a vibration damper...

I've bought lots of these on ebay and never encountered any problem :)
