I've wanted to use my standard 1st party Xbox 360 wireless controllers on my Xbox for quite sometime now thanks to the redesign that moved the black and white buttons to shoulder positions, along with getting a nice wireless controller for the system. I believe both controllers are similar in many ways. Has anyone ever tried to adapt the USB wireless PC adapter to a Xbox 1 controller port?
They both use USB but that is where similarities begin and end. The XDK has absolutely no support for the 360 wireless reciever and as a result absolutely nothing has support for it. The controllers themselves are similar to some extent. Code up a driver for it, include it within recompiled homebrew and you're golden. If you wanted to use it in commercial games you could potentially build an interface to "translate" the signals being used but nobody has done it and it isn't something you can slap together in an afternoon.
I figured there were significant roadblocks. Was hoping someone may have investigated it in the past since I knew before posting this that it wasn't going to be something I had the skill set to figure out on my own. What would your opinion be on modifying a wired Xbox 360 controller for Xbox use? I'd be tempted to try if it was more in my range of skills just because I much prefer having those two buttons be shoulder buttons.
The quickest way to migrate a 360 controller to XBox usage would be to tear both apart, wire the buttons on the 360 controller to an XBox controller as you want them and eternally have an unwieldy mass in front of you. There isn't a simple way to do this right now. If I knew how to code for crap it wouldn't be too challenging to use a logic analyzer to examine the protocol used by both controllers and program a PIC to interface between the two. It would be within the realm of possibility to plug something into the XBox with a USB plug sitting there for which you can then plug into a wireless reciever for which to use a 360 controller. Possible? 100% entirely. Doable today? No, at least to my knowledge. A few forums over in the Nintendo dev section you can see DarthCloud's work on getting GameCube controllers to work on the N64. He has definitely exceeded my expectations with that project and seems to be continuing to do so.
you could get some third party wireless controller but like Ape said you'd still need to do a lot of solder work to create the mutant device
Here's a Xbox360 controller for Xbox: http://www.focalprice.com/GXB72B/XB...red_Game_Controller_Gamepad_Joypad_Black.html
WOW that's not something you would think would be made but there it is I think I might just order one just to have it
