if so, how well do they work? I'm still needing to try out the Master System ones (was my first ever home console but never came around to getting them) which I understand are very cool.
just looking for little thrills like that these days. as much as I like the VB I can't bring myself to use it anymore.
maybe consoles of this day and age would do well to use such 'archaic' technology - I can only imagine how much more awesome something like Rez would look with such an effect.
it was the 80 when companies where trying all this type of thing (especially with handhelds) - these days people are suprised when Nintendo do something off the wall. how times change eh?

just wanted to add that I came across this site:
http://www.tcat.ne.jp/~oguchi/3D%20LIST%203%20(1980-1989).htmand was reminded of their existence, of which I was aware of through ebay.

check out the other cool/weird vintage stuff.

I had a pair of 3D glasses that came with my copy of Rad Racer many years ago, but they only worked with games that rendered the graphics those funny blue and red colours (never played any other games apart from Rad Racer that did that)

Do you mean the same type or were there a different pair that worked with more games?

I thought I'd clarify. Shutter glasses are different than the ones that came with Rad Racer. Shutter glasses are mechanical. They exist for Famicom, Master System and Vectrex...off the top of my head.

I have a buddy who has the SMS ones...but no SMS (I have one though). Maybe I'll see if I can get him to dig them out for me.

I have the Famicom ones, and they work reasonably well, for games like Falsion, Cosmic Epsilon, 3D Hot Rally, etc. The problem with the 3D games on the NES is that, due to the NES' limited CHR graphics size, most games do 3D effects with sprites. Which means, you see the same graphics, just shifted to the left/right a bit. The graphics thus are mostly flat, but are pasted on many levels of depth.

Compare that to the SMS 3D games, where many of them have different graphics drawn for each eye, so background graphics have both depth and a feeling of form and contour.

SMS and Famicom 3D glasses work the same way, so I can use my Fami glasses on my SMS with no problems.
