Lol, that should be EVER not every...sorry.

    Also known as Champix?

Seeing as it's no-smoking day tomorrow I took it upon myself to go and see my GP today to get advice on quitting for good. I've tried cold turkey many times with limited success.

I had a choice between NRT's or this drug, I asked the nurse what she recommended and she suggested this.

The potential side effects are pretty severe (suicidal thoughts, homicidal tendencies + nausea etc as usual with most stuff).

There are some pretty scary stories on the net but then many many positive reviews too, I've taken drugs with these kind of warning before and I was fine, so I'm hoping I'll be ok.

Anyone ever use it before? Feedback?

I've had friends who have taken it in the past, with pretty good results. As far as I know they didn't have any of the really bad side effects, though one kept smoking out of habit even though he admitted it had no affect :p

Chantix is the one that gives you incredibly vivid and nasty dreams, right? I've heard bad things about that stuff.

Yeah that's the stuff. I've read a lot of bad things about it.

But I'm also being bombarded on Facebook by a lot of people, family and friends who are saying it's the best thing they've ever taken.

There are no reports of any permanent side effects so I guess there's no real harm in trying it and stopping if I start going loopy.

My biggest concern is now that I've read all of this stuff it may make my mind flip out, whereas ignorance would have stopped it from happening.

Keep a dream diary then, eh? ;)

Half tempted to try it just for the side effects.

My gf's parents (who were heavy smokers and had tried to quit before) used GP-administered drugs to quit (I think it was Champix, but I honestly can't remember). Aside from nausea and some rough nights, it was amazing - they had completely stopped by the end of the treatment and haven't gone back several years later.

My sister used this a couple of months ago, apart from a few nasty dreams she hasn't had any really bad side effects. After the first month she stopped using it and has a few weeks supply left that she just uses now and again if she's going out drinking.

Seem's to be working great for her.

Well took my first pill today.

Feel very weird, spaced out, after 2 hours cigarettes don't the same and have no effect.

My mom is about to start taking it.
    It's either this or Wellbutrin.

I hope she doesn't get suicidal or homicidal. Cause if she does, then I probably would be the first victim!!! D:

Seriously, I'm just hoping she quits smoking for good... it's the most annoying habit ever. Specially when she smokes in the bathroom before I have to go. Argh
    Hate it

The deal with this is that no matter how nasty things get, you have to stick to the 3 month treatment... All the way through. If you dont stick to itit doesnt work.

And also, you have to smoke during the treatmen. That way, everytime you smoke, you feel nauseated and that stays as a reflex in your mind.

Yeah I have to smoke for another 6 days. Seems weird to me because it's already working to the point where I'm just not bothered by smoking at the minute, even with my dad sitting next to me lighting up every 30 mins.

I might phone up NHS tomorrow and see if I can stop sooner if I think I can handle it.

I tried it and was still smoking 2 months later.

That failure aside the drug made me feel horrible. I would get frustrated doing noting at all. I guess that frustration could lead to some homicide XD but doubtfully suicide.

In all seriousness though I've smoked the better part of the last 22 years and have used patches, gum, chew, nicotine straw things etc. and would recommend any of them over this shitty drug.

My advice is to stay away from it. I'm 2 months into actually quitting smoking now. I am using about one pouch of spit free smokeless tobacco a day and soon will quit that as I've had this same can for over 2 weeks now.

Best of luck to you in quitting.

Well I can just about manage cold turkey but with my dad smoking in the house and refusing to change his ways (it's his house after all) I spoke to my GP about the best way to deal with this.

Seeing as I have nowhere else to go escape they recommended it because it will just outright stop the effect of nicotine so if I breath in his smoke it won't trigger a huge craving.

I have to say even after my first 0.5mg it is working, I light up and half way through think "what's the point" and put it out, it does nothing and tastes like crap.

However I do know that the first day of giving up is always the easiest and my champix dose is due to increase to 1mg in 3days so it remains to be seen what will happen.

The good thing about it is I kinda feel stoned after taking it. I'm just really relaxed and zoned out and yet surprisingly awake at the same time.

I really wish my grandma would quit properly. She has done multiple times but always gone back to them. At the moment shes on this plastic 'puffer' with cartridges with little nicotine soaked piece of tissue in. But at the same time she smokes. You can never tell when it has run out and gives a placebo effect. I can't explain how the placebo effects works to her because then it wont have that effect so basically we're both up shit creek. The house stinks of it. It turns everything yellow and all my clothes stink of it too and godknows what its doing to both mine and her health.

Is there anyway I can avoid this? some of my clothes sit in draws for a while after they're washed. So despite being clean still end up reeking of it.

Cyantist, Shut your door. Go to tesco/asda/whatever and buy one of the Oust, Febreze, etc with Odour neutraliser (Or get an airwick freshmatic which sprays it automatically) . Also, Try using dryer sheets in your drawers, Shake and Vac on your floor will rid the smell of that. I've recently done up a house which had a smoker in and we've basically got rid of the smell of smoke from it now without any professional stuff.

Put a bowl/bucket of white vinegar in the corner of your room and change it every 2 days. It will remove the smell of smoke to a certain extent.

Presumably it'll replace it with the scent of vinegar. Not sure how much of a win that is.
