Thinking about getting one, does it run fine under leopard? Can it handle 720p quicktime files, i doubt it... but you never know...

I have a 1.33ghz 12'' Powerbook, it runs fantastically under Leopard, boots in 40 seconds (with 1.25GB ram and a 250GB hdd, it used to boot faster with the smaller hdd).

I bought it because I wanted a small laptop to take with me to Japan for the regular stuff such as word, internet, skype, MSN, watching movies and basic Photoshop. It by far exceeded my expectations as I can pretty much do all the above things simultaneously without any problems.

You can't run 720p on it though, the minimum for that is a core duo 1.83ghz intel processor.. It runs 480p / dvd rips just fine, plays decent games as well (Powerbooks have good graphic cards) and for me right now it's wonderful.

To imagine a 4 year old computer actually runs most things better than a new computer running vista with medium specs at the moment..

    Any more questions?

Yeah, HD certainly needs dual core to run at a decent frame rate, especially full screen.

Thats the only thing that is setting me back from buying one... I want to do all that you mentioned , but would also love to take it to a friends house to watch some HD movies :). I guess i'll just looking around to see if i can get a good deal on an old intel macbook, if not i'll get a powerbook as they are fairly cheap.

Getting an old Macbook means it won't run very smoothly, as the old ones are Core duo's with a very weak graphic card.. It'll run, but not very good. If you want HD you're gonna have to invest in atleast a 2.0 C2D MB, but preferably something better. My iMac is C2D 2.0, but since it actually has a graphic card that changes a lot, so it runs 720p. I'd get a new system (don't they start at 900$?) or a Powerbook or something, I guess you could find a Powerbook for ~400$?

Really? According to Apple's website that's minimal though.. Never bothered with 1080p as my iMac couldn't do the resolution and I never tried hooking it up to a tv or anything.

Well, either way I still recommend the 12'' Powerbook greatly, I love the size and feel of it.
