And some blank NR discs? If so, do normal DVD-Writers pick the disc up, and is there any way they can write to them or is the official NR Writer required? If anyone has any blank discs and a writer and would like to write data to one and sell it, would they ?
Well that's the problem, I only need a single disc to be written and wouldn't really need the drive for anything else.
PM dot50cal he has one and can probably burn it for you as long as it's not some beta you're cloning to make a profit on.
Haha no, picked up a green NR reader the other day, and I'm quite pissed off as it was meant to be the USA/JPN one, but I got a PAL one, so it's the same as my normal gamecube with a different DVD firmware... So my plan is to have an NR disc with GCOS on and net-boot DOLs to it, good idea or bad?
If you swap the mainboard from an ntsc gamecube in it should work. AFAIK the only difference with the nr is the dvd drive firmware. You should ask oldengineer about this, he's know for sure.
Well my ideal plan is for the seller to take it back and give me the item they said it was, which would be the USA/JAP version and not the PAL, but either way I'd still need an NR disc with something on to use it, and don't want to open it (breaking the seal) so GCOS and BBA booting would probably work.
The TDev kits have USA/JPN, and the only things I've seen on NRs are USA/JPN. My model number is DOT-001P (P = Pal).
Haha, at least yours has the switch ;p. I wonder if the PAL versions are rare compared to the USA ones...
Speaking of NR-discs, what's technically special about these? Does anyone know more? Why does an NR-Writer refuse to write on normal DVD-R/+R? Are NR-discs +R or -R? I know the NR-writer firmware is special, but I want to understand what's special about the discs.
Prefer the green-coloured case. And the other reason was to be that it'd output NTSC over SVideo but the seller's an arsehole and destroyed my hopes of that.
RGB cable requires a TV (I'm using a TV card). And I'm not opening the case, the nintendo sticker is staying in one piece!
I'm pretty sure I read someone here saying that there is a way to burn normal DVD-Rs to be used in an NR Reader. They wouldn't give out details, and I'm not surprised.
I have an NR writer but never tried it as I don't have the software (and I kinda forgot I had it, haha). I also have a stack of scratched empty NR discs that need polishing (anyone know a proper way to polish DVD-R's?) before they can be burned. If I can get this thing up and running I'd be glad to help you out though. Oh, and if you just want to keep the sticker in one piece; use a hairdryer. Works great.
I don't have a hair dryer though I was looking at videos on youtube ;p. I've got the software for it if you need it, PM me your email and I'll send it via email, or I can upload to MS/MU/RS/etc.
