Anyone have a laser for a ps2

Looking for one,

model number is: scph-30001

I guess I need the whole laser unit.

The Ps2 boots up,the laser calibrates, then it lights up once, then the disc spins for a secend or 2, thats all. It then says "no data" on the screen. Ive tried it with an audio cd and a ps-one cdand a ps2 dvd, nothing works...

You could try to clean the laser first.
Just take one off those things you put in your ear and put some alcohol on it and rub it on the laser gently..

Have you turned the variable resistor on teh bottom of the laser unit? Its like what you do with the PSX as a quick fix for a burn out but dont turn it too much.

Buy a new one, or used thats the same model and swap lasers and come back saying the laser is broken and get your refund.

you dont need a new laser. My ps2 had the same problem. It wouldn't load anything. Try rotating that white cog in the back one notch at a time until it reads a disk. It took me like 5 minutes of doing this until I found the right setting. The ps2 blows ass in quality, but it can be fixed. you might as well try to fix it before buying a $50+ laser.

Hell, you can buy a broken ps2 off ebay for that price, and most of the time it's from dumbass parents or whatever that dont know how easy it is to fix their ps2.

its just a white cog behind the laser. I'd eject the drive, turn the ps2 off with it still open, do your turn of the cog, and place a game in. It's a pain in the ass to put a disk in and turn it back on while holding the top on yourself, but it's worth it if you can get it working.

My ps2 version (SCPH-30001 R) had the cog partially covered, but it's not hard to get too.. Just mark the original position with a marker so you can always go back to it if you can't help it.

HaHa, ok I found it...


But (!!!) the ribbon cable to the laser is messed up, its kaputt!

So I will get that new and try to adjust the laser.

hope thats what it is. Again, sony made a POS, but it can be fixed. I would have never sent it in to them to fix back when they were still charging for service and shipping.

 

You will only know the problem after taking to someone to open it and check the board.

Depending on which version you have it can be the BA or the LA ( Those are the DVD/CD drive controllet ). If your version has the LA (crappy version made by Sanyo), he can replace and add a fix on it, so it will last longer. If your version has a BA (the best version) he'll just replace it.

If it's the lens problem, check the version of the laser (400B/400C/400R (a.k.a. skeleton)/HD7)

By the way, i was talking to my friend Marcelo (modchip installer / PS2,PS1,XBOX and DC technician. He installed my latest modchip), and he said the best and more reliable version of the PS2 is the 39001, followed by the 30001R.

The latest version, 50001 is very fragile and problematic.

 

The 50001 was the best model, imo. I owned both a launch model (30001) and the 50001, and the 50001 never gave me any problems. I played it for hundreds upon hundreds of hours.

 

I say you are lucky then.

The 50001 has the worst drive controller (the LA), the most fragile lens (the HD7 that stops working with a little bit of dust) and tends to overheat very often.

This friend of mine, Marcelo, says that on the PS2 corner (for repairs) there are 27 PS2s. 19 of them are 50001. Plus there haven't been a 39001 for repair in the last 3 months. The only one that show up is for modchip install.

The 30001 model don't show up a lot, since it was the lauch model, and by that time, people use to sell it for ridiculous prices. For example, if you want a japanese PSP here in Brazil, you must pay 1900 Reais (706 dollars)

 

Meh 39001 was great (laser wise), followed by the 10000 (hardware wise!), the new v9's = suck, there OK, but lotsa problems
