I've been spending a fair bit of time on the Yahoo Japan auctions where there are, from time to time, bargains to be had. I see a lot of lots, which is to say, big piles of games in a single auction. Plenty of rubbish on there but some gems too, but these lots are sometimes described as "junk".

I know in Japan that can just mean an item which is untested, so it would be a gamble to buy them. Still, some of them sure are tempting. Has anyone ever bought any of these "junk" lots? And did you have to do any work on the carts after you got them to restore them to life?

I personally haven´t bought any junk items myself.
But Retrotech on youtube have a series where he repairs "Ebay Junk".
You should check it out, even if it isn´t much help, it is pretty cool to see some of these items being brought back to life :)

Yes, I've bought plenty and it certainly is a gamble. Cartridge games seem to work just fine 99% of the time, but consoles are really hit or miss and sometimes CD games are a bit scratched up. But in general, Japanese people keep their games in good condition.
