I inherited a good sized (30+ games) SNES collection a few years ago from a friend. The system is very yellow, the controllers are in poor shape, and I've been thinking of an upgrade.

I don't really like the SNES's case design that much, so I was thinking of checking out a clone system to run my snes cartridges - the retroduo in particular since it looks kind of sleek.

Does anyone have any experience with the retroduo? Does it work alright with superfx games, or other special hardware games like DBZ Hyper Dimension? Is the snes emulation poor quality, or good quality? How is the sound emulation for snes?

From everything I've read, the retro duo suffers from the usual problems that all emulators suffer from (i.e inaccurate audio, less than 100% compatability, occasional glitchiness etc) so you'd be much better served by getting a real console. If you don't like the design of the American SNES (not that I can blame you) you could always get the Japanese super Famicom, it looks good. Trim a bit of plastic, and you can make your American games fit.

I have the silver one which I bought few years ago on a whim. I believe the silver one is version 2.0 and they have since introduced a 3.0 version in different colors with same case design. I haven't use it much because frankly it just feel very cheaply made. Like every clones out there, the NES portion is lackluster, but I do recall the SNES portion to be quite decent. Honestly, unless someone is giving you one for free I think you will have a better gaming experience with the real thing. Like what FireAza said, get a SFC if you dislike the SNES aesthetic.

I have the silver one as well; I set it up for my son in his room while I keep the real hardware to myself (he's 7). It seems to be ok for the casual gamer. Only die hards will notice the audio issues.

Sadist. Decades from now, he'll be scouring the interwebs looking for "that awesome silver console I played as a kid", always coming up empty...

I've heard bad things about the NES emulation of the retroduo, but actually read elsewhere that the SNES emulation is better than comparable clones. Its pretty cheap already so I might pick one up if I can find it for a low price (would want it mostly for the SNES emulation anyway). Thanks for the perspectives, anyone else please feel free to chime in.

I haven't really had any serious issues with the SNES emulation on the Retro Duo (I have the red/black one). The NES emulation is crap, and I haven't tested any Super FX games with it, but it's a lot cheaper and easier than cutting up a Japanese SFC.
