I guess it won't play gd-roms I wonder how the cd player interfaces with the dreamcast

Those read gd-roms just fine. Heck I have a pc cd-rom laser in one of my Dreamcast and it works great. I also happen to know a tool is being developed right now to use plextor drives to dump gd-roms with just an app and that drive. No more bba needed, this same app dumps xbox and 360 images with a normal drive no special fw needed.
