    Hey people,

After going thru some of my old magazines (Sega Power!) , I stumbled on a Sega Genesis/MegaDrive game called Phantasy Soldier 3...
It's supposed to be like "Strider but without the knobs on" and it was given like a 5/5 rating... I've been searching for it like an idiot but
I can't find any info about it anywhere. Google only returns a couple of russian websites and another dude looking for it =)
I guess he never got his answer though... Anyways, since I'm a total Strider fan I'd like to check this game out, so any info would be appreciated =)

I've never even heard of Phantasy Soldier 1 or 2. Any chance you could scan the images of it or even photograph them? An image would really help.

Well that's just the problem... It wuz in the mag in a section called 'The Hard Line', which contained excerpts of previous
reviews... Basically, it's a just list with a short description and a rating (1-5)... so no images or anything else.

Here's what it said in the mag:

    PHANTASY SOLDIER 3 (Import) £35

Strider without knobs on. The action is just as enthralling and the smooth visuals
are atmospheric - with even more detail. With the fab cartoon sequences it's a
    winner. *****

phantasm soldier VALIS seems more likely. Has fab cartoon sequences, plays like strider. I think we've solved this.

    aight then

k thanks dudes =) I'mma go check it out... see if it really plays like Strider =)

So it turns out to be a spelling mistake... Pretty weird, especially if you consider the fact that the section in the mag stayed unchanged for over a few years =P

Yep, sounds like Valis III to me too. Plays nothing like Strider though. Strider is much better. However, I do have a soft spot for all the Valis games even if they all are a bit cack.

Here are the cover scans to all the Mega Drive Valis games (Which I own. sad aren't I)

VALIS I (No Valis II on the Mega Drive)

VALIS SD or VALIS SYD in the States

Cool... the same question... and no clear answer unfortunately =(

Maybe I should try and get in touch with one of those guys who were eds at Sega Power back in the day =P

But I just checked Valis out ... like Yakumo said, nothing like Strider at all... too slow and not nearly as hectic. =/

*btw i only played thru the first few levels so don't crucify me if the later stages are fast and action-packed =P

Don't worry, they're not. Belive it or not Valis on the very old Japanese standard PC88 (Think that's them) is actually very good to play. Much better than the Sharp X6800 version. The first Mega Drive game is cack but the 3rd isn't that bad really.

Depends on the valis game, some are more action and fast paced, some are very slow side crawlers.
