I am working on this for my uncle. He lives in the middle of nowhere and has no internet. I am trying to install the software on his laptop for his daughter as it was her xmas gift. The piece of shit WILL not install unless you have ALL windows updates, it WILL NOT install unless you are connected to the internet. The thing is a hugh load of crap. Does anyone know of hacked software that allows simple drag and drop of stuff to the player without all this fancy software. He just needs to put songs and video on the player and this crap isnt worth the hassel. I fear it wont work correctly even once installed as he dosent have the internet where he lives. The thing is total crap and I would recommend aginst anyone getting it as MS are tagged it with some much crap and restrictions its stupid. (you cant just drag and drop to it as it wont show up under my computer) :rambo: :rambo: :rambo:
Erm... I have a Zune and I'm perfectly happy with it. I much prefer it to the iPod junk. Though I'm connected to the net and have Windows XP... so... *shrugs*
slightly off topic... but a 30 GB ipod is almost 1/3 the depth ofa 30 GB zune. and with the ability to work without internet access... so...
I dont like Ipods either. I buy 3rd party MP3 players and such like the Creative Zens. It just seems MS are becoming so stingey anymore its not worth the hassel. I just got the thing working after 5 hours of fighting with it. I had to do all updates even hotfixs and then be connected to the internet. And even then its still giving me crap for no reason at all. I can only hope it works good enough for my uncle to get his daughter some music. I highly recommend looking elsewhere for a good easy to use MP3 player. Just my opinion though.
You should have an updated system regardless of which MP3 player you use. The initial Zune install takes awhile because it's grabbing the latest firmware update for the player (Apple does the same with the iPods). Personally, aside from the new Touch, the Zune has a *much* nicer screen than the iPod classic. -hl718
The new Zune software really is garbage. The old one let you drag and drop, and I think it will eventually work with the new firmware. Other then that it's an excellent MP3 player.
a bit old and bulky, but still the best mainstream mp3 player you can find in the market. The options, versatility and completeness blow everything on the market. Go change the zune for that.
Creative Zens kick ass, but from what I've seen a comparable Zen is about the same price as an iPod/Zune, and they're usually used. That is unless you want want of the newer flash players Creative has been making, but I want something that holds all of my music, not just some. I also wish Sandisk would make a hard-drive based player. We bought my dad a Sansa 4GB player for Christmas, and it is beyond cool. You actually get tactile feedback from the wheel, which is something I hate about the iPod, since I almost always overshoot. It's memory is also expandable via miniSD, which is undeniably useful. I want one
The reason I didn't go for Zen is that I hate the selection thingy on it, they are cool. You can get a 30GB Zune for 30GB, and the 80GB isn't horrible for 250, but thats still expensive. Wireless transfering is cool, even though the new software kind of sucks.
^You have low standards :\ I've been pretty unimpressed with my iPod and I wish I would've gone with something different. Then again I'm not really a trendy person so maybe that's why I have something against Apple. It wouldn't have anything to do with bad software and a very non-user friendly design (as far as maintenence goes) Their marketing techniques are terrific, though. (Sorry, I don't really like Apple if you can't tell )
I got to admit, one of the biggest reasons I haven't liked iPod is the whole trendy factor, but I do think the old iPods were pretty crappy compared to competitors. Nowadays, the iPod Video and iPod Classic out now actually look pretty decent, and probably don't bust like the old ones, so thats good. I still really like my Zune though, even if the new software bites my ass.
Well heres the thing - It's a fucking MP3 player. I listen to music on it, I use the screen to navigate the menus' to pick my songs.I dont need high res for that
Call up microsoft, record the conversation, post the reply and laugh as you drive to the store to return the zune.
Relax, I didn't mean any offense. I don't like Apple and I had very little sleep last night, so I'm sure I'm at least a little biased here.
Just defending. you said I have low standard for screens. True- but only when it comes to a device intended to play audio.
Neither the current generation iPod or the Zune are designed *just* for audio. One of the nice things about the Zune is that it does a great job with both audio and video. If video wasn't a concern, I'd probably not worry about the screen either but then again, if I just wanted an audio player I probably wouldn't buy an iPod -or- a Zune. -hl718
To be honest I'm not impressed with the iPod's audio quality, either. The sound can be very flat and at higher volumes distortion gets pretty bad. I get better sound out of my Zen Nano. I'm really picky about my audio hardware, though, so take that for what it's worth.
