    Yeah, me too!

However the problem is that there will be an enormous shortage on units when it gets released in Japan next week. So, I'm afraid there's only a little chance we can get one :smt009 .

But, if there are people who can get one or more PSPs, let me/us know!

Asnozz, you've gotta give the buyer some motivation... you're expecting them to sit in a line for perhaps hours and fight off rival shoppers so they can buy and post a PSP to you at cost?

Play-asia.com is a good bet, but they're prob. sold out.

    Is the PSP region free?

Apparently the PSP has a region but will play anything. It does have a BIOS so of course at some point in time, they could reinstate regional protection.

Amazon Japan has them selling for 20,790 Yen.

    20,790 Yen = 203.562 USD, 104.875 GBP, 151.373 EUR

einbebop44, yes the PSP is region free when it comes to games. UMD movies however are region locked, at the time of speaking it isn't sure whether or not Sony will use the standard DVD regions for movie playback, what would mean that for example Japanese movies could be played on PAL PSP units (and vice versa) because they are both region nr. 2.

Fortunately, as can be seen in the new Play-Asia reportage, the NTSC-J PSP will support both English and Japanese menu language. This makes it extra interesting to import a Japanese one...

my main concern is whether Xvid/Dvix movies will be supported via the memory card?..... if so i think that would confirm my getting one soon :smt033

do you think a 512 mb memory stick is sufficient to store a normal length divx/xvid movie then? Preferably I would like to get myself a 1 gb one, but unfortunately they are too expensive :smt042 , they cost more than the PSP itself.

BTW I heard that Sony is going to release some kind of MPEG-4 software specifically for the PSP, so you can convert your (downloaded) movies to the mpeg format (I assume?). I don't know what that could mean for the supported formats by the PSP?

i have plenty TV shows which are sub 512mb, and the movies can be shrunk... they dont need to be full quality on such a small screen.... so i may beable to half there files sizes.... If it is possible on a PSP though :smt045 This was one reason why I considered a GP32, although with a maximum card size of 128mb.... i decided to opt out. Maybe in a year or two 1gb cards will be nice and cheap though :smt023

Yeah, thanks. I'll probably go for a 512 then.

    But, lets stay on-topic! :smt033

Anyone (who lives in Japan and is able to get one, of course ;-) ) willing to ship some of those PSP units to Europe this month?

Why not wait until after Christmas? Prices will surely be lower then.
