It looks increasingly like Bernard Matthew's Norfolk turkeys were potentially infected with HN51 avian flu by alleged illegal imports of turkey products from another Bernard Matthews farm in Hungary, which were apparently being processed (yummy!) in sheds close to the site of the diseased birds. Although the company have clearly stated that they have done nothing wrong, it is being suggested that there is a suspicion that the meat products were imported from the Hungarian restriction zone (remember there was an outbreak of the same strain recently). These imports if they occured would be illegal and thus supermarkets are possibly going to remove them from their shelves "Not" as they suggest "...because of any possible issues with the disease, but because the meat would have been illegally imported". Just listening to the radio announcement in relationship to the possibility that HN51 (Avian / Bird Flu) may exist in the meat products currently on our supermarket shelves. This reminds me SO much of the same statements being made about mad cows disease. At that time we were all informed that "cooking any such meat product properly" would save us from the fatal disease. Well time will tell in that instance, but that same statement has been released in relation to Turkey products. Not wishing to create widespread panic, but does anyone fancy a Turkey burger right now? :noooo:
Load of sensionist crap. Its a different type of virus which is known to be killed by heat. Even if its in the food chain just cook it properly. Its safe to eat. Its all a bit like the Scottish salmon farm crap all over again.
I'd eat'em. I don't mind. No virus can survive baking temperatures. I wouldn't risk touching anything raw though.
It makes me laugh when they have mad scares about things like this but never actually think of what shit goes into those BM turkey burgers. One of my uni buddies worked there in the summer and the off cuts and mutant turkeys that they couldn't sell would be mashed up and put into the machines. Tumours, strange growths, the whole lot. Despite that, I still enjoy (and miss) the good old British banger
Yeah, I know people who've worked in pie factories, meat factories, even more innocent stuff like tinned veg. They all have horror stories about the places, the offal that gets put into mass produced foodstuffs.
I remember in the 70's during football matches at a certain stadium (back in the days of standing terraces) when at half time the toilets were jam-packed. Most of those who couldn't wait, just pee'd where they could, usually up at the top of the stadium against the walls. The pee would find it's way slowly down the steps and actually to the pie sellers trays. Anyone buying a pie on their way out of the stadium at the full time whistle got more than they bargained for.
Not sure what you mean? The definition of "Heathen is from Old English hæðen "not Christian or Jewish". I'm definately part Jewish and from a country steeped in Christianity since A.D. 397, which ain't bad. :110: That said...do you want a pie? LOL
