OK, so what do rich people buy to show off? Yup, custom number plates! So, what do rich gamers buy? The same!! If you visit Regtransfers, you could be the proud owner of: PS 2 PS 3 M55 EGA (Ms SEGA? M(aster) S(ystem) Sega?) SEG 44L (SEGA 4 .... ??) Unfortunately, you have to ask for the prices of the above. Likewise, you have to ask for the price of the following plate from New Reg: S3 GAY (Ideal for the homosexual Sega fan, perhaps?) If you would rather know how much you're spending, try the following: 5 NES (SNES) will set you back £4595 MAR 105X (Mario SX?) will set you back £9995 SEG 41S (Sega is....) will set you back £6955 X5 EGA (X Sega) is only £1445 SEG 4E is cheap as chips at £495 If you still can't afford that much, try some bargain plates: S55 EGA or S555 EGA only £143 each N9 SNK, N6 SNK or N6 MVS (NG?) also only £143 each You'll also find plenty of plates with PSX, PSP, DS or NES in them. If you do want to buy a plate, please remember: There are lots of companies out there, and they are often acting as an agent for a plate they don't own. Shop around, as the price can vary! Usually it is only £50-100 difference, but it can be a few hundred. Actually, 5 NES is £4595 from Regtransfers and a whopping £10,745 from Newreg!! Check what hidden extras there are (VAT, commission, registration fees etc.) Sometimes the company owns the plate - if a search suggests it isn't available, try elsewhere! You must have a car to put the plate on, or you can put it on retention, which involves yearly costs. The car the plate is going on must be of the same age as or older than the plate. The DVLA specify the type face and spacing for a number plate. If you plan to use a different font, move spaces or use any other technique to make the plate appear to spell something (e.g. making X5 EGA into X SEGA), YOU WILL BE BREAKING THE LAW! You could be stopped by the Police and fined, and your car will fail its MOT with those plates. So, if any flash gits get a gaming plate, let us know!
Obviously via top cash back ;-) I do have my own plate A14N S B As Alan and then my middle initial and surname Sad eh!
One of the managers at work has one. Brings my piss to a boil really. Probably cost more than my car.
Hehe, actually I don't know whether TCB covers number plate sellers. I doubt it. Just got an e-mail from a number plate dealer which brought this to my attention, and thought I'd have a dig and see what's available! Oldengineer, this is the OFF TOPIC forum, where people post things they find funny, amusing or whatever that are not directly related to games. I thought this interesting, and I'm not getting a fucking penny from it. Actually, I forgot to mention one thing. If you do buy a number plate, ALWAYS HAGGLE!
My ex was a doctor and had her own personalized number plate. Not giving it away, but it was SO out of character for her. It was her one indulgence and I could never understand it. It went from one car she owned to the next. Utterly pointless and frankly the occupants of the car knows who they are and anyone else on the road is a complete stranger, so why bother? It's not like the rest of the World gives a shit really and most people wouldn't click if you drove up with S3 GA1 or whatever anyway. I always think 'do these people realise how pointless that is?' Each to their own I guess, but I'd prefer to spend the money on something else and keep being anon behind the wheel.
VA: get a Mario plate to go with it ;-) randy: I haven't bought one personally, but I know several people who have and have helped friends source them (no I have nothing to do with the companies!). My friend wanted a plate with LEE in it (his name). I found him W1 LEE, which he thought was really cool - I pointed out before he thought about buying what it spelt, though... Parris: Couldn't agree more. I find it quite funny that people want to draw attention to themselves by advertising their name, often in a dubious manner (shows the cheapskates!) like spelling R with 12 or even having a number in the middle that is either the wrong number to make a letter or you have to ignore to get the spelling! I can understand people wanting a plate that goes with the car, e.g. a 911 plate, although again a bit pointless. The other thing is that it stops you identifying how old the car is, a tactic often used to give the illusion of a newer car! Still, if they want to do it, so be it. Personally I'd rather buy something useful, certainly ;-) That said, I think it would be cool to do up a VW Camper with a big TV and an Xbox 360, and put the plate 360 VAN on it... although perhaps that's just asking for trouble! It seems that they have a wider choice in the States!
