My Panasonic FZ-1 Appears to be working (video displays, lights light up, cd tray ejects) except for one thing, when you put a disc in the cd-rom drive doesnt spin the disc at all, and the reader doesnt move. Does anyone know what could cause this. It did work before.
Dead laser maybe? If the drive is not able to read the disc at all it will not spin. I would suggest you start by opening your 3DO and clean the lens with some alcohol and qtips. If that doesn't do anything then maybe you need a new laser, you can also try to adjust the lens power but that's a long shot and there can be some effects as well. I saved a PSX and PC Engine Duo using this but without proper equipment it can render your console worse than it is. Sabre
or dead fuse. Check for fuses on the main board and multimeter them for restistance. If you find one thats burnt, you can attempt to replace it. Fuse plan for the FZ-1 might be hard to come by though, and i naver saw one of those boards - dunno if they are easy to identify from PCB prints (like "F1") tubo
Another common problem with these drives is that the spindle gets pushed down, and the laser no longer correctly reads the CD. I've fixed one 3DO (the only broken one I've seen) this way.
Crud, the FZ-1 has a pretty common Matsushita CD lens that can be replaced whole hog, just like the Turbo Duo. But I can't remember the part number. If you can pull it apart and find it etched in the side, you should be able to order a replacement component from Electronix or one of the other bigger parts dealers.
