The PSX sound files, anyone know how to extract them?
Not talking CD, I am talking about the hardware files.

You mean music that isn't on a PSX game CD, but in the hardware?

FYI: I miss the Playdia sig.

I have this game promo from konami, and it has the most amazing arrange music using the psx sound chip. I mean, incredible, maxes out the psx. I wanted to take those off and insert them into another game.

Hmmm... that's a stiff order. I recall a few tools to rip the CD music, but I'm sure that's pretty old hat to someone such as yourself. I'll do a google.jp search, but I seriously doubt I'll find anything.

Extract the player code and musical data (sequence data + samples) and replace the target's sound code with that instead. May require rewriting large portions of code.

If both games use seq/vab/vag-format audio the procedure should be simpler, but will still require code tweaking to make sure the music is played correctly.

Like C64 SIDs, PSFs are a bundling of both the player code and the music data. Transplanting them from one game into another is not trivial work. It's very different from ADX, which is mainly a streaming audio library.

O.k. I'll give it a try, I'm a fan of music made for hardware, it's more of an art than throwing a cd track on it.

I think we all remember the awesome music from some cartridge games, and the work that must have taken to achieve.

You can also run an emu and record the sound to a wav. file. Or hookup the stereo out put from the psx to your sound card.
