I've asked this question on a few forums, and so far no luck! I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the region codes for Pico games? I'm trying for a full PAL UK set at the moment, so I know the UK's region code is '-05', but I recently came across a game that I previously thought was a USA only release which had a region code of '-11'. The game in question is Scholastic's the Magic School Bus: Going Places, the box states that it is only for use with PAL consoles/TV's and the box and instructions are English only. All the other Pico games were released in 1994/5 but this one has a copyright stating 1998 on it. I'm guessing it's either a late UK release or an Oz release, but I need to know what that region code is for before I make my decision . Either way it's a previously unknown (to me anyway ) PAL release, taking the total PAL releases for the console to 11 (not including variations)!
As a Sonic Collector I bought a Pico purely for Tails and The Music Maker and Sonic The Hedgehog's Gameworld, I am from the UK and therefore my Pico is a PAL system, however I bought Sonic's Gameworld whcih was only released in the US/Japan, I got the US version and it works... ...so the Pico maybe region free? :cur_sonic:
Yeah, the Pico is region free. I collect PAL Sega games and would really like to know what the region code -11 is for though. It has to be a PAL region as the box states only for use on a PAL TV, and as the box and manual are in English I'm guessing it's an Oz game, would just like it confirming .
As far as I know, Brazil and Argentina are PAL territories. South America is mostly PAL. North America, including Mexico, is NTSC.
Brazil is PAL-M, which is not PAL. It's actually more similar to NTSC. Anyway, pratically every TV sold here since the 90's are "Trinorma". They accept PAL-M, PAL-N (Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay) and NTSC. More on PAL-M here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL-M_(television) More on PAL and it's variations here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL Brazil digital / hdtv broadcast system is an upgrade of the japanese ISDB-T, called ISDB-Tb. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SBTVD Back on topic, i think the Pico that was made avaiable in Brazil was the same system / region of the USA.
+1 At least for the megadrive, asian games have these codes: XXXX XXXX-40 XXXX-11 I can't figure why some have 40 when others have 11 or nothing. What is odd is that 32X pal games have "XX XXX-50" code but the asian games just have "XX XXX" I guess there's not much more logic involved in those codes...
Yes it's really a "bastard" region. Some games takes the european or japanese cover, use the same serial and just add "Asian Version" on it (Ariel, Golden Axe III etc ...). Most of them just use the european game code (ie without the -XX) ...
That makes sense!!! Asia never even crossed my mind, but if the code is used on MD games then it's gonna be the same for other consoles I suppose . I didn't even know the Pico got an Asian release, I've never heard of any Asian Pico games before anyway! Thanks for the help .
Didn't know that the Pico got an Asian release too. Can you make some scans for http://www.guardiana.net please ?
Meh, just need to share that I actually had a Pico when kid I had the Tails' music game and a Winnie The Pooh game...
