The last trailer I really liked was for the movie Pearl Harbor. Too bad the actual movie was disrespectful piece of shit.

I was watching the original Robocop trailer the other day. It features the Terminator main theme ! I guess because they were both released by Orion Pictures.

The best trailer I've ever seen was for Cloverfield. The teaser they showed before Transformers. It was the first trailer of all time to not include the title of the movie. There was never a trailer that made me want to see a movie more than Cloverfield's teaser trailer. I didn't care if the movie sucked, I was going to see because I wanted to know what happened.

I did see the movie and it's amazing. An instant favorite.

Trailers are always a key part of the movie experiance. Being a big fan of wes anderson I watched the life aquatic trailer everyday till the movie came out.

I love the trailers they did for the re releases of txh1138 and blade runner for the final cut.

I have the Pearl Harbor trailer on my hard drive. It's one of my faves. Incidently, the music used was also used in The Thin Red Line. Some others I have are King Kong, Spider-Man 2, Planet of the Apes, Fantastic Four 2, both Dark Knight trailers, Shrooms...

On Apple you should check out The Assassination of Jessee James. I watch the Clovefield trailer last night. Looks really cool. :)

Movie Trailers in my opinion are an artform equal to the films themselves. How to engage with the audience, introduce the main themes & illustrate an entire movie in seconds in such a way as to make the audience waiting for one film, consider seeing another. Sometimes they work, and sadly often better than the films they advertise as they condense the narrative & visual effects into a chunk that when you see the film is really just the best bits, and other times they just tease you and entrance you and add to the film experience.

The "trailer" isn't a new phenomenon and if you've ever watched some of the original 1940s, 1950s teaser trailers it's almost lethargic and mind-numbing by comparison to todays fast paced, beautifully timed mini-epics!

One of my favourite old trailers is for one of my all time favourite films "Bullitt" (1968), which has real charm about it and comes just ahead of the new wave of slick cinema. Everything had changed by the time "Jaws" came out in 1975 and suddenly the music was as important as the visuals.

For me "Jaws" and it's trailer (in particular) opened up a new audience of cinema goers and is often credited with saving Hollywood. John William's sound score was essential and without it Jaws is just a straight forward film about a big fish pissing an island community off. Adding "Duh duh......duh duh....." etc to the film created incredible suspense & tension.

That marked a turning point and can be seen in a plethora of 70's trailers.

I'm not sure which is my favourite "Trailer", but my favourite opening sequence, ending sequence for any film has got to be "Se7en" - an altogether incredible film. The titles added to the mystery of the film and actually introduce the style of the killer, in other words once you have seen the film you realise they had introduced you into the inner mind of the killer right from the off with his weird ramblings and spliced together diaries etc.

Nice topic! Hope it runs on a bit and people introduce me (and others) to stuff they've never noticed or thought about beforehand.

I like watching movie trailers, I always thought they where part of the movie experience. So I don't mind that they put movie trailers at the beginning of movies on video, I look at them. There might be something I might want to watch.

You mention the Cloverfield trailer, that was great, you have no idea what this movie is about. All you see is the head of the Statue of Liberty flying into the scene.
