Don't think many people are lucky enough to have a Debug PS3 kit yet on here but you never know!. One of the main features I have read about is selecting the PS1 and PS2 region wich would really come in handy.

For what its worth, a buddy of mine installed it, and it worked fine. Furthermore, someone answer my BST, Im looking for one too! (for DEV reasons, vs it collecting dust)

He's not around atm, but release notes say basically that the SELF check mode (aka debug/retail created SELF's) has been changed, and other stuff, drop me a PM for more!

    well, i finally feel useful...

yes, the Test Unit runs great on 1.80. I don't have to do some firmware check bypass anymore to play Motorstorm, and it will actually load PS2 games now (it was previously at 1.2 so it didn't do squat but play R:FOM). Still won't play Blu-Ray movies or DVDs... i also get a weird error when trying to log in to the online store.

Is the TEST PS3 multi regional when it comes to playing PS2 games?

don't count on it being possible to ever play blu-ray movies on those.. most likely never going to happend.

yeah, i'm wondering if maybe i can get the Blu-Ray drive to work through Linux... but for that to happen would require me to go through and install it and i'm kind of a lazy ass. [for example, i was going to assemble this motorcycle a friend gave me, it stayed in my parent's garage for like three years].

Sorry, i don't know the answer to the multi regional ps2 games as i own none, there is however a menu with the option to change the region setting on the PS3 itself, that may relate to the PS2 games as well.

The issue with that is, since theres no HW accell, even if somehow the bluray movie plays, it will be choppier than the seas during a storm. Dont happen to have another, eh?
