    hi

is anyone on the board hand with a soldering iron? and if so i have a huge favor to ask

basically ive been trying to build a vga cable for my xbox (original not 360) so i can use one on my 21+ crt monitor but my soldering skills are terrible due to having permanant handshakes, and poor eyesight

im basically trying to make one of these

    http://www.360mods.net/News/article/sid=36.html

with optical out also on it

ive tried to use a 3rdparty advance scart which already has the phono audio output and toslink, so its basically the 6 wires from the connector to the vga plug

ideally what id like is a cable premade, i dont mind paying a bit for it as long as it does what i was trying to do

failing that, i could send someone my parts so they can finish what ive started, i dont mind paying a couple of quid for postage and labour

so basically can anyone help me out either with a premade cable or finishing mine for me?

    cheers

    andy

have bought a component to vga transcoder off ebay. its not really what i wanted but will do for now until some kind person can build me a cable

ill have another go myself this morning as my hands are quite steady at the moment and see how i get on

Wouldn't it be easier just to buy a VGA box like the Neoya X2VGA+ which has proper VGA support (rather then Sync on Green which not all monitors support), stereo output and optical out?

well ive just bought the equivalent of the x2vga, a vdigi vdz3, as the x2 is too costly just for using on a spare monitor, so ill see how i get on with that, but from what ive been readiing on xs forums it should be ok.

it apparently converts the component signal into true vga, rather than just upscale so it will still utilise whatever signal is put into it (480p, 720p, 1080p etc)

just seems a waste now that ive stripped all the cables for nothing, like i say i was hoping to do it myself, but im basically not good enough with a soldering iron,

and my monitor supports s.o.g. (siemens 21" crt which i got off a carboot for £5, max rex 1852x1392@75hz) really i just wanted to see what the difference was when using it through vga using the new hacked bios as apparently the vga picture quality is really good, and i already have my main xbox hooked up with component into my 32" lcd panel in the living room

well i got my vga transcoder yesterday, and it does the job perfectly, the picture quality is amazing when its hooked up to my 21" crt, so far have tried it on gamecube, wii, xbox and 360, all with great results, picture is sharp, crisp and clear with fantastic colours (zelda on the gc looks the buisness!) works in all resolutions (480p, 720p. 1080i/p) but doesnt work properly for 480i or 576i

also have tried it on my 32" lcd panel and it seems to make a slight difference on there compared to component, slighly more definition and detail and better colour levels so all in all im well chuffed!

thanks for the folks who offerd to do the solderwork for me, really do appreciate it, but as the vgabox does what i wanted ill bung my stripped cables in the bin (unless anyone wants them , may be of some use, got a stripped out xbox advanced scart and a vga block connector)
