I have some Amazon Coins that need spending pretty quickly. I was thinking of getting a couple of GTA games. I could afford San Andreas plus one more. Has anyone played them on Android? How do they play? Are there any issues with them? Slowdown, bugs etc? I'm not really interested in "Vice City is the best GTA!" replies... more how they play compared to the originals. If you'd recommend one over another for good reason, I'm all ears! I only have my Galaxy S5 at the moment, but I'll probably end up getting a tablet for games. Probably the new Xperia when it comes out. And I use a bluetooth controller, so the on-screen controls aren't an issue. The reviews are somewhat conflicting (although they'll take into consideration gameplay and bugs, I guess): GTA III: Google Play 3.8 / Amazon Appstore 3.5 Vice City: Google Play 4.1 / Amazon Appstore 3 San Andreas: Google Play 4.4 / Amazon Appstore 3 Chinatown Wars: Google Play 4.3 / Amazon Appstore 3.5 Sadly, as always, the Amazon versions are lagging behind: GTA III: Google Play v1.6 / Amazon Appstore v1.02 Vice City: Google Play v1.07 / Amazon Appstore v1.03 San Andreas: Google Play v1.08 / Amazon Appstore v1.06 Chinatown Wars: Google Play v1.01 / Amazon Appstore v1.01 Again, if anyone knows that any of those versions are severely flawed, that information would be greatly appreciated!
If you need to spend quickly, then obviously it wouldn't matter so much? I guess they expire or someshit right? I'd just spend them anyway, I haven't heard horrible things about the ports.
I have the GTA: San Andreas installed on Xperia Z2, Android 4.4 (KitKat) now updated to 5 (Lollipop) works very well. never got problems, you can also chose the quality of the graphics (if your device are slow) etc... btw, I did not pay for that! XD I use also cheat ... lol
For a game like GTA on the phone, I was extremely weary of how they would play due to touchscreen controls. After playing it, I realized my worries were for nothing, & the control is excellent, which still baffles me. I have the galaxy s4, & I can run 3, VC, Chinatown Wars at max settings, SA around halfway. I recommend.
Port quality wise, it's good. Bad thing : If you have already finished those GTA games, why play them again?
The biggest problem would be just the comfort of using a phone. I can't play GTA on my phone for more than 40 minutes, it's not comfortable and enjoyable. ( I have a Nexus 5 with a 5.0 inch screen ). Playing these games on a tablet would probably be much better.
Thanks for the replies, guys! Some useful answers. I don't have a problem with playing the games again, as I loved them - and some I never completed. I played them to death at a friend's house, yes (lived there 2 weeks solid when San Andreas came out lol) - but when I got it myself, I didn't have the save, sadly.
Look up Vadim M on YouTube for videos related to the mobile versions of III and San Andreas to get an idea of what to expect compared to the originals.
Chinatown Wars is a fantastic game and perfect for mobile play. The others are good ports on Android but to get the most out of them a good stand and a controller are a must and when you reach that point you kind wonder why you didn't just pick up a console copy again. I see the 3D versions as mere proof of concept.
The videos were handy, thanks. Although they don't really talk about any inadequacies, they do mention differences - which is nice. It seems they worked on these quite a lot, so there are improvements over console versions. Not least the fact you can take it on the train with you, unlike your PS2. I haven't played Chinatown Wars at all, admittedly. Could be worth a go. And yes, I need to hurry before my credit expires - oops!
I also wasn't impressed with the touch controls. If you're not using those they're fine. Recommend San Andreas, only because that's what I seem to end up playing the most.
Nice port but I hate touch controls, especially for a game like GTA that has so many buttons with aiming. I stick by the original Xbox having the best port of GTA 3 & VC based on visuals and PC for San Andreas for Mouse Aiming since it's visuals were better than the Xbox version.
Only problem with that one was the abysmal framerate drops when things got even remotely hectic. It seemed to happen even when you accelerated.
