.....and man what a load of bullshit this movie is. DISCLAIMER: if you haven't seen the movie yet nor read the comic, this is chock-full o' spoilers, so be warned. Kick-Ass the comic wasn't exactly Watchmen-level stuff, not even Ashen Victor, but it was still much better than the usual crap getting published these days. I liked the comic because it was realistic, it really managed to make you feel the characters in the story could actually exist in real life. The movie? well lets put it this way: the best part was MClovin playing Red Mist, and shit it was awful, I was even expecting the fat guy with the jewfro to pop-in somewhere and start making lame jokes. It starts OK, keeping with the original comic most of the time, then at some point the original story gets trown in the trash, raped, and then re-worked to the point that it stops being fresh and original to become dull and tired like any other superhero crap movie you've seen in the last 10 years. They really screwed up the pace: instead of everything going "well" we're made aware from early on that D'Amico's son plans to create a fake superhero as a plot to lure Kickass into a trap, and then that it's obvious he's going to betray everyone. This was a major twist in the comic, and I can't find the logic behind paying some "pro" screenwritters millions to make this POS story instead of just using the original plot. Bigdaddy? it turns out he was always a cop, his wife killed, yadda yadda, insert-B-movie-Punisher-ripoff-here. I can see Cage pushing for this change in the script since he and his bullshit "acting" only works for these kind of one-dimensional characters. The point of the whole story was what happens when regular people, even a boring accountant with an unhealthy obsession with comic books, decides to be a hero. Here we get the same old shit of cop going vigilante, and with a token black guy as BFF the producers must have added to compensate for all the black people getting butchered in this movie. The assholes behind this movie basically took Kickass and turned it into a early 90s teen drama, everything is nice and friendly and guess what? Instead of getting dumped for pretending to be gay like in the comic, here the nerd gets the chick, and even his fatass buddy does, only in hollywood!.......... but not the real one: there you actually need money and blow to get hoes like that. Jumping the shark moment: KickAss gets on a yet-to-be-invented jetpack/minigun thing and shoots the shit out of the last goons left in the penthouse. It only gets worst when he walks around and fights with the thing on (which must weight a ton more than his skinny ass) and then flies away with Hitgirl in the biggest cliché scene the monkeys that wrote the script could've possible thought of. Anyways, my closing comments? Don't waste your money on this turd sandwich: torrent the shit out of it and help make it a commercial failure. FÃN
Child exploitation garbage. I have better things to do than watch a young girl be beaten, even as a movie.
It is funny, like the comic..........until it falls into the same crap any other action movie does. Is like a self-parody, it cant be taken seriously if you did read the comic first.
I watched it today...kind of hit and miss. Superhero movies have to walk that fine line between real world and fantasy world, and they did a decent job....until the end when the jet pack comes into play...heh. If you believe the people are real and living in the real world then you can connect with them better. That end scene kind of destroyed the emotions based in reality. I thought Cage was good.....nice quirks. I loved his William Shatner voice when he was dressed up...heh. Seems that the more interesting movie would have been about him and his daughter. The Kick Ass character was kind of all over the place....nothing to really hold on to.
The character of kickass was meant to be pathetic, everyone is if you put them side-to-side against the image of the typical superhero. In short they took a well-crafted story of a kid trying to be a hero and turned it into a cliche ridden movie about some guy actually becoming a superhero.
I thought it was excellent, for many reasons. Mostly for the andrenaline rush though, the night goggles fight left me gasping. Oh and Hit Girl was awesome.
I think its best if you don't read the graphic novel before you watch the film. I thought the film was good - cheesy but it was good nevertheless and yes I haven't read the graphic novel
Well, do you think it's a good movie, if you disregard it's connection to the comic? Never mind if it could be a better one because of it.
Honestly? nope. Is not as bad as some crap I had to endure like the second F-4 movie, but the ending is so out of line with the rest of the movie that it ruins everything.
I loved it, they changed the ending where it orginally was that there was no jetpack and hitgirl was originally suppose to kick him off the edge, instead they decided to make the ending epic and actually made the nerd kid into a hero at the end. Besides jetpacks are a bit farfetched but they aren't nessessarily impossible to obtain the guy had a bazooka for godsakes that he ordered by adding to shopping cart. It was suppose to be funny and I enjoyed it, it was a fun movie.
