Inquiring minds wish to know. I've never really had faith in this movie and want to know my doubts were justified.
I just saw it. All in all, it was awesome. There were parts that I did not like (the new robot designs mainly), but the good far outweighed the bad. Basically, if you go into the movie expecting everything to be true to g1, you will be disappointed. If you go in with an open mind and actually give it a chance, you should be pleased.
Basicly if you really value your childhood memories of the G1 transformers don't watch the movie. There is little left of the original G1 feel. The robot forms, vehicle choises and appart from optimus prime lacking original voice cast have nothing to do with what transformers really was. If your going for a mind blowing spectacle of being wowed every couple of minutes and the occasional well placed joke then yes go see the movie and you'll love it. Me as a purist transformer fan couldn't get passed how it should have been if they'd been faithfull to the transformers (but hey i have that with every cartoon/comic based movie because appart from sin city every single one was majorly flawed)
Why can't they just be loyal to the original thing? 300 was just like the comic... and the result was pretty much awesome and made a huge blockbuster.
Yeah, I haven't seen the new movie yet, but the designs of the transformers look like a mess of stray polygons going every which way. Whatever happened to the sleek, cubic robots of old with Gundam-style heads and gigantic groin sections? ;-(
I saw the movie yesterday and was quite impressed, but not as much as I was with 300. All of my friend's thought it was the greatest movie they have ever seen, and I haven't talked to anyone else yet that disagrees with them. The action in the movie was great, and the level of detail while transforming was out of this world.
I just saw it this morning. And hands down, the best looking movie I've ever seen. The special effects were jaw dropping. Yes, I saw 300, twice, but I think Transformers is a better movie overall. Mainly because it didn't have that awful narration by David Wenham. Transformers is a must-see. Everything looked stunning, insanely detailed, and awesome. I knew in my mind it wasn't real but they sure did a good job of making it seem real. The slow-mo shots are the greatest.
I'm going to see it tomorrow. Thats becos frank miller decided to get into showbusiness after some smuck exec modified his robocop2 script and turned it into shit. So he jumped into the scene to avoid more of his work to be destroyed by dumb producers.
I just got back from the cinema. My childhood has been raped. It took everything cool about Transformers: the fights, the characters, etc, and spat on it. The start's cool, where a decepticon starts blowing the shit out of this US base in the middle east, but after that, its literally an hour of "OMG HAXXORS!! IS IT TEH KOREANS OR THE CHINESE@!?" which has nothing to do with the plot apart from lead up to what the Autobots and Decepticons are fighting for, which Optimus Prime explained in about 5 seconds anyway. Even the introduced characters (humans) are useless, and don't contribute at all. And their tech research is horrible, worse than a million hacker movies. The army guys are pretty cool, shooting and calling for backup, but everyone else is lame. There's about 30 minutes of Transformers, 25 mins of fighting (which, I admit, fucking owns), and a whole heap of BS. Avoid like the plauge, go buy the original series on DVD instead.
Yes it was. IMO, best movie out this summer, better than Spiderman3. I was actually going to see License to Wed with my GF today but that was at a later time and we had plans to go see fireworks later on in the evening, so we were on a timeframe and Transformers was within that. I didn't have high expectations for that movie as with any movie based off cartoons from my childhood (TMNT, I'm looking at you with disappointment), but the movie turned out great. Bumble Bee kept getting his ass kicked - as always.
I've got to wait a few weeks for it here in Japan but I'm not looking forward to it if all there is are great CG effects (as it seems by everyone's comments). I saw Die Hard 0.4 last week and boy, was that a dissapointment ! The whole hacker part of the story was soooooo dull and weak as far as plot went. Real shame really since the 1st 3 Die Hard movies were all great in their own way. So anyway, will I be saying Yippy Kieyay Mother F*cker when I see Transformers or going home very dissapointed only to revamp my memories with the classic Transformers the movie (animated) DVD? Remember, flashy OMG !!! WTF, L@@K AT THAT AMAZIN' CG ACTION! Does nothing for me unless there's a good story to go with it. Yakumo.
I never watched Transformers growing up so it was fresh for me. But I thought it was just ok. Mostly becuase of the tacked on love story and the fact Shia lebeauf always plays the EXACT same character I enjoyed my friend's hot mom playing with my hair more.
I was pretty impressed overall, I'm glad it jumped straight into the plot, describing the backstory during the movie. The only part I didn't like was the cliche fat hacker nerd. Speaking of cheesy fictional hackers, Boris is way better because he froze to death in liquid nitrogen
Golden Eye the best Brosnon bond film.... And if you missed it in the other thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tpbp9GXOGU
