I obtained an almost perfect condition NES today. I haven't owned one of these since I was a kid. My old one fell victim to a leaky roof and I never replaced it. Anyway. I found all sorts of pictures ect.. of people who have done weird mods to their NES units, like S-Video and power supply swaps. but what I am most interested in is the Stereo mod. Has anyone done this and is it worth it?

Only worth doing on top loader. On the old grey box just get a stereo splitter.

The NES only outputs mono so you can never have true stereo, though I know how annoying it is to have sound come out of one side of your speakers.

S-Video does look really nice though, far better than RF or composite. Don't bother with overclock mods as the NES really doesn't have much slowdown and the CPU frequency has the audio clock tied into it. Meaning the sound will be off and recognizable if you put your speaker inside a very large bag of helium.

I'd rather go for a 7.1 Dolby Digital DTS mod on my NES tbh, why settle for less?

Oh. I didn't know that. From what im reading though people are tieing pulse and saw to the left and noise and square to the right. i guess thats "Fakin' Da Funk".

YEAH BROTHER! ;) Why stop at 7.1 when you can mod it to have "Buttkicker" support. http://thebuttkicker.com/products.htm

Yeh I did mod my french NES, I can't remember much about it, but R channel comes from one resistor and L channel comes from the resistor next to it, it worked!

Does this involve replacing the PPU?

Probably, a friend of mine had a NES that did S-Video. At the time I didn't think anything of it.
