Seems that any new Japanese product on DVD (whether it's video or a game) is on the internet days before it's out in the stores. It also seems to always come from China or Hong Kong. Think distributors will eventually have enough, and try to enforce some rule where they don't get it for a week or so later? Since we're hitting a new generation, presumably the game makers will enter a state of not caring for a while until their protection is cracked, but I assume DVD publishers will need to come up with something fast.
Yeah like bothering to release content world wide at the same time... and not making me pay twice as much for my games, dvds, and music.
Well, you can't really blame the game industry for that. You guys in the UK get screwed on all fronts -- not just games. Economics. In all seriousness though, I think you have it a lot easier. Going off of pure speculation, I'm going to say that starting salaries for Brits is a lot better than the Japanese, who have a ridiculously expensive society and perhaps the cheapest salaries in the world until they're about 40.
Here are some links that give an idea of where they are going with securtiy on next generation media. Seems they are shifting to a more "Big Brother" style to me. http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/11763 http://home.businesswire.com/portal...d=news_view&newsId=20050809005624&newsLang=en http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/12153
Ahh, so now if I buy a DVD player they don't like, thier particular DVD just won't work on it. Will they do me the convience of listing which players don't work on the cover of the DVD? Not very likely. All the more reason to download.
When it says disable players does it mean the dvd playing on the player or disable the player from playing dvds?!
I'm fairly certain "they" will come up with players that doesn't give shat about all those new measurements eventually... OT: by the way does DVD players sold in your countries still locked to your region? Over here it's far harder to find the player that's locked into the region than the region free ones... people just don't buy those so even big name brands are selling their players region free - though never advertised nor mentioned in the manual...(coz there are few exception but they tend to cost high 5-10k range.)
The way I'm reading it is that every media disc has a list on it that shows what it can play on. This list is constantly updated every time something new is released. If brand x player has an exploit or gets hacked any new discs with the updated list would prevent any future releases from playing on that brand/model player or possibly tell the player itself to shut down. It would also be possible to tell a player not to play a certain discs if say pirates sold a bunch movies and printed them all from a lot of discs of the same manufacture time.
would it be hard to ignore all that crap and just play the disc for what it is... surely "they" won't give fuss about these management thing anyway... or consumers turn the back to something else if DVD, HD-DVD become such silly mass... I was surprised how little penetration DVD has in Korea compared to other countries... I've heard many publishers not bother with DVD release unless it's major titles in Korea. i was checking out with few of old mates and was quite surprised that the lack of DVD presence in Korea compared to over here... in 3+ years time it took off like wild bush fire...
I have a not to old apex dvd player.Once you put in a code you can select what region you what.1 thru 6,and also disable macrovision.
To get back on the original topic, personally I feel it is a little sour that everybody babbles about "China being the new world economic superpower" and stuff while a significant part of their export appears to consist of knockoffs/products of generally low quality...
