I downloaded Aurora dash and it looks pretty good, it needs in my opinion a way of switching between folders on the dash, instead of just having everything on at once or other folders filtered out, but they say they are working on a lot of changes. FSD is a bit unstable for me when downloading title updates which is a known issue in the last version, and there will be no more so I hope that Aurora will take over.
I haven't tried Aurora just because I'm used to FSD. The title update bug doesn't botter me, because I download the updates from my PC and It's much faster that way. I'm actually suprised that Aurora isn't catching on.
I used it when it was first released, and to me it looks nearly identical to FSD minus being more cleaner (in the sense of less clutter with hard drive size, time, and all the other menu bars). Haven't used my 360 in a while, but when I do, that'll probably be my primary dash. While features are important to most, I like my minimal look and FSD is just too cluttered for my taste.
I do like aurora. I don't think it has the ability yet to hide multiple disc titles yet, or at least I haven't found how. But it loads fast and supports large databases. FSD would crash quite a bit on me...
Yes FSD is a bit unstable but only if it's updating titles in some way, I hope Aurora goes ahead and develops further, it's very fast.
Well, mine would crash just loading up the game list; not doing any title updates. But I have around 1150 titles or so that's my issue.
i have FSD installed, rarely use it to be honest.. if i need to boot anything from external drive i use XEXmenu, lot quicker for me at the end of the day. Aurora looks ok, just not felt the need to try it out yet.. looks clean and simple tho which is nice
Some things I would like to see in Aurora before I would use it as my dash: 1. Control for fan speed. 2. Temps 3. Different folders like in FSD.
yupp i tried it, and I like it better then fsd. fsd crashes alot, for me. while aurora is fast, and doesnt crash at my side xd
at this time I prefer f3 over aurora, but when aurora is completed I am sure it will be the better of the 2
I have been using Aurora 0.4b for the last few days as I get tired of FSD freezing and there will be no fixes for it in future. I set my fan speed etc in dashlaunch and if I want to see my temps I just press the guide button. It handles multidisc titles fine, handles updates fine, cover art is no problem, boots faster and seems smoother, titles boot faster as well. Has trainer support. I am using the filters to only have the content from my games folder showing, it would be nice if they could have a selection of folders on the side though, other than that it seems really really good.
There have been quite a few improvements to Aurora in the past year. Aurora will never be as "feature rich" as what FSD is, because the developers intended to Aurora to be a no frills Dashboard. They have however added support recently for ConnectX for game streaming from your home network, and that was a feature that Aurora had been lacking for quite some time. With that feature now added, I would say Aurora is my preferred dashboard. I do find that I do install both however, as I've just gotten used to FSD File Management copy/paste interface. I've tried XeXMenu and Aurora, but my fingers always seem to me 3 steps behind my brain. Perhaps just some more getting used to on my end. The only thing that Aurora still desperately needs is some good skin packs however. All in all I'd give it a B+ to A- rating. It's absolutely worth trying even if you are a die hard FSD user.
I am still using Aurora and since they fixed up the FTP problems in the latest update, and you can swap between 360 games, XBLA, Kinect etc with the bumper buttons, I changed the wallpaper and I love it. It handles TU's and trainers really well, I would never go back to FSD again.
I installed it and could never get my games list to populate. Anyone else had this issue. They load up perfectly in FSD3.
Totally agree with HypoToad since the first time i tried ( guess almost 8-12 months ago) and got it rolling i never looked back, and would not chance back to FSD ... As mentioned the Patches, Trainers and Connectx Features working very well! I like the "smart" filtering system (had to get used to it some time), making it easy to browse big HDD'S and find the Game you want within seconds ! I also gotta admit skining sides aurora badly need some input and some good themes (even though the different ways to display your Games f.e. 3Box Art, Elevator Style, Big Wall, Newspaper Style etc. really looks awesome) @ ToXZiN 1 -> had that Issue too back then but can't really remember how i fixed it atm but I'm quiet sure i found some on that in the coresponding Thread over @ realmodscene.com gr337z
