Some help/advice needed here people!!! :smt017 I moved house recently and don`t have access to cable broadband. :smt022 AOL can supply it to me via my phone line. Checking their info it looks like their highest Package-platinum is the only one that supports gaming (X-box Live/PS2) http://www.aol.co.uk/products/comparison.html I know it`s only £5 a month difference from the Gold package but BT`s equivalent that they recommend for gaming is only £24.99. Is there any UK readers that use AOL or BT and can give their opinions/recommendations :smt023
I'm with BT Broadband, and haven't had any problems so far. I've only been signed up for a couple of months, though.
Don't even consider going anywhere remotely near AOL! there are other good ISP's down south such as nildram and pipex you should check out :smt023 All broadbands support gaming - they just try and blag you for your money however nildram offer good speeds with some very nice pings. Go for anything other than AOL - avoid them like the plague :smt023
AOL are the devil of the internet provider world with BT following close behind. You're best looking for something like Blueyonder BB or NTL. My brother uses Nildram He says that they are very good so it may be worth checking them out. Yakumo
Bt's service is actually pretty damn good,it's just their prices are ridiculous for BB speeds that are nowhere near the rest of the world's yet. I have had no problems with my Bt service with Dl speed going up to 150 KB per sec on the package I have, and that is ftp and torrent speeds. I don't think Bt will be that great on an exchange with too many people but for me in the sticks,I have bandwith a plenty. They don't imose a D/l limit till next year as well and when they do that I'll move over to someone else.
How much do you have to pay for a decent broadband connection in UK?I have a 2Mbit DSL line in Germany for 40EUR/month .Nobody uses cable here (no cable lines with a backward connection are avaible anywhere beside in a few cities).
I was with Blueyonder...but they for some reason have the whole road covered with the exception of the half a dozen houses where I live. They advised that for some reason they were not able to install the cables to the group of houses.....could be for be for a variety of reasons....but they aren`t any bloody good to me :smt011 ......same for NTL :smt011 General concensus appears to be give AOL a wide berth....... Just that BT has a 15gb monthly download allowance which I am hoping doesn`t effect the game=play
15gb a month will affecf you quite a bit. Infact the limit is quite pathetic if you are a PC gamer and want to download patches, homebrew modifications, preview videos from fileplanet etc it all adds up. I guess a) forget AOL even exists b) Put BT with their shitty limit as a last resort. c) look up Nildram and see if they have a reasonable price for your budget :smt023
please rename this topic to AOL Broadband - sUKs Go with any of the normal ADSL ISPs that DON'T require sh1tty custom software to be installed. Bulldog Communications did an interesting package a while back - 2mb off peak (evenings and weekends) and normal 512k during the day, for around the price of a normal 512k connection. Good for downloading.... umm, game patches And homebrew games :smt033
re AOL is what I'm using right now. Know why? Because I get it for free... If it tells you anything about AOL, I'm trying to get a different provider, as they suck (random disconnects, awful speed, wide open to whatever spyware you can think of, etc.)
Cant recommend blueyonder BB enough to be honest, they couldent connect the cable to where i wanted it to run in my house because of a conservatory roof (its one of those plastic roof jobbies) so they hooked me up with a free wireless kit that connects to my digi box downstairs :smt033
