    Hello Folks,

Not sure if this is the right forum but let's give it a try.
I'm looking for Apple IIe PSU information.
These PSUs have several weaknesses after 30+ years.

One being the metalized Safety capacitors (tend to explode into stinky mess) I am searching for additional information on common component failures. There are unique failures between the Anstec brand PSU and Non Anstec brands.

Currently I can not find this information but remember reading about it years ago.

If you have information on the subject please share.

It's a PSU so standard PSU troubleshooting. Read the Level II service manual, too. There are more than two different PSUs, by the way.

Of course electrolytic capacitors fail after 30+ years! Just replace them.

Many of these old caps are still holding strong. I don't have time to fully recap the 50+ computers in my collection unfortunately.
I try to avoid blind recaps with my computers.

What are the other PSU designs? I only have records of two versions during the Apple IIe days.
The "non anstec" all follow the same design from my experience.

Plus a few of those old Apple power supplies have design flaws (like some of the Mac analog boards)
There are many improvements that can ensure reliability .
The above link was helpful though. Wasn't sure if these Apple iie PSUs required fixes other than matching/replacement original parts.

Why would you recap a working machine? If you have a non-worker or a fault, suspect capacitors. It's usually easier to just replace them in that case.

The other designs were documented in one of the manuals - I forget which. Probably level II again. The changes may well have been minor - but changes nonetheless if Apple bothered to mention them.

I'll dig in the Service Manual again. As for total recaps we are in agreement. I only replace the caps needed/suspect.
Earlier I thought you suggested to replace all caps. I was explaining why I did not recap usually.
    Anyway. Thanks again.
