In theory, yes. However, the DAC in my CD player is of much higher quality than the one in my PC - so it sounds better, even when playing the exact same audio. They make high quality DACs for computers, but I don't have one, and honestly I don't want one, because I like CDs.
Pros: You don't have to break EULA to run OSX. Cons: I can buy a car (or two) for the price of one and have change left over to buy something from Dell.
Also http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/MacBook-Pro-with-Retina-Display-Teardown/9462/1#.T9i9fsUprs0 -Pentalobe screws, even more difficult to open -Battery is glued to case, difficult (impossible?) to upgrade when it inevitably dies. -Display fused to case, have to replace entire lid if screen dies -obfuscerated SSD connector, it isn't the conventional type, potentially difficult to upgrade -RAM is soldered directly to the motherboard, upgrade is not possible (guess they got tired of people buying the 4GB models and then dropping in $20 crucial ram)
haha, love this... but c'mon, by now we all know how to upgrade Mac computers... Throw it out the window and buy a new one.
I think the biggest problem is the soldered ram. If you ordered a mbp with 8gb and want to upgrade you need to buy a new one. Apple also limited the amount of ram to 16gb max in the biggest model (the chipset can handle 32gb). The battery can be removed, even if it is hard to do. Let´s wait and see how reliable these models are (12 month should be enough ;-)). At the beginning of the year i wanted to upgrade my late 2006 macbook white to a new ivy bridge macbook (pro) but now i think i will get a lenovo w-series laptop.
Check this out: http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ It gives you an idea when it could be. No option to install a blu ray drive on any mac... And now the MBP retina version doesn't even have an optical drive! I don't think I could get used to it, Yakumo.
I'm hoping that it's nothing huge, and that the updated BIOS can be hacked onto the SB imac's they have currently. I was planning up upgrading my iMac to 32GB of RAM, a new processor and a blu-ray drive. I think an IB CPU would be pretty cool, and they technically are backwards compatible with SB (in terms of pins and sockets)
This line up is undoubtedly one of the worst (the rejuvenated, post near bankruptcy) Apple have ever put forth. A. Because of how locked down it is and B. because while the hardware in them is nice (while being overpriced as per.), because of the stupidly huge res you get poor performance just browsing basic websites. Torvalds nailed it on the MBA though.
