I'm getting a Qanba Q4 which works on both 360 and PS3 (and PC) I'm toying with the idea of putting in a Semitsu stick Something stiffer for shmupping. Basically SHmups on 360, fighters on PS3. But I was wondering what your stick preferences are. I'm unbiased but I have grown to hate Korean/Western Bat style sticks. my huge ass mas sticks cost me more than a few online matches of SSFIV last week. My understanding is Sanwas are looser and Semitsus are stiffer, Sanwas have multiple swappable gates while Semitsus only gome with whatever gate is screwed to the bottom. So I figured I'd ask you guys your preference.

Both Sanwa and Seimitsu have various different gates you can install, but they don't affect stiffness at all. They only affect directional engagement. Both can be stiffened/loosened using various springs. You can adjust the throw of Sanwas using oversized actuators and even convert them to optical, if that's your thing. Not sure if there are any optical Seimitsu sticks out there, but they have a ton of different models with different throw lengths to choose from. Quite a few shmup players seem to prefer Seimitsu sticks with Sanwa buttons, but it's all just personal preference. They're all great, really.

I own the Qanba Q4 and I got it from Arcade Shock. It's awesome and I love it.
I use it with the 360, the PS3 and with my pc filled with emulators.

This is the best arcade stick I've ever seem.

Nice, I recently upgraded my sticks with 24mm seimitsu buttons and love the result. I doubt you could go wrong either way, but most people say it's a matter of preference rather than a matter of quality.

For me the buttons have to be Sanwa but for the stick either is great IMO. I use a Sanwa in mine but I have used Semitsu sticks in the past.

focusattck.com had a really nice Semitsu stick I was eyeing. I'm looking at about $70-80 depending on the parts I get

Nice, yeah they are a great site to buy from. Quick shipping and good prices. What seimitsu stick are you looking at?

What's a good price on a Qanba Q4? I really want a new arcade stick for mame. Didn't want anything bad but not too expensive either.

The prices are pretty much what you see on the website. If you want them cheaper, apart from buying used, your best bet is to wait for a big fighting game tournament and hope Eightarc is giving away 10% off coupons during commercials. They do it fairly often, so they're not hard to come by. The other option would be to build your own "poverty stick" with a PS360+ or MC Cthulhu.

HORI Arcade sticks for 360 and PS3 work on PC as well and can get a used one for $90. Depending on how much you'll want to spend.

But they don't work on both 360 and PS3, which is a major selling point for the Qanba.

I've always preferred Sanwa for buttons, but with the stick it varies.
Sanwa-stick for fighters and Seimitsu-stick for shmups - that's how I like it lol.

If you have the option to try out a few sticks I would recommend this as it really does come down to personal preference. I find that certain characters in SF play better with the sanwa sticks (JLF) namely charge/command throw characters and semitsu (LS32 & LS40) for shoto's.

You may have already seen this, the chart shows various specifics of each stick; looking at throw & engage etc.

I use a Hori RAP EX with Sanwa buttons/Stick and a PS360+ Mod for any console and PC.
