Basically I don't buy or play many driving games. When I do it is usually Grand Theft Auto or Gran Turismo. With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed F1WGP 1 and 2 on N64 an Sega Rally on the Saturn. Bear in mind my system is more than capable to do the graphics settings justice (probably maxed). I did try a 30 minute demo of DiRT 3 via OnLive and I sucked donkey balls on it, yes I was that bad, but without spending more time (or money forcing me to appreciate it) I don't know if it will be a worthy purchase. The reason I'm wondering is because this weekend there is a Steam sale for both games @ £20. I'm still skint at the moment and I probably wouldn't buy them on offer in the shops, but as my games library is largely full of FPS or RTS it would be nice to add some variety into the mix and these are a little tempting - especially if they support my xbox 360 controller. Any thoughts?
Dunno about DiRT 3, but F1 2011 is definitely worth it if you're an F1 fan. I have 2010, and 2011 is supposed to be pretty much the same except better.
Haven't played F1 so can't speak for that but Dirt 3 is great. It feels more of an arcade type racer though with the mixture of different rally styles (Rally, Rallycross, ect...) but the car handling and physics are spot on and it's heaps of fun. Just don't go in expecting a serious rally game and you'll love it.
Yes and no. You see, Sega Rally is an aracde style rally game and the best there is. Dirt 3 is more of a serious rally game so i don't class them as the same type of game. Both racers. They're both rally games but at different ends of the spectrum. Yakumo
I never liked Dirt 2 due to the in your face American presentation. Dirt 3 sort of has it but it's toned down an awful lot. Forza 3 and 2 come to think of it has none of that in your face shit so I'm very happy with the presentation on those games.
I haven't played D3 yet but my coworker raves about it. I have played Dirt 2 and the driving and tracks in it was amazing (best rally I played since rallisport challenge 1/2 on Xbox).
Disliked DiRT 3 actually, DiRT 2 was better. It's not boring or anything just has something I can't put my finger on..
Onew word......yes. DiRT 3 is a fantastic rally game, probably one of the best imo and even better than 1 and 2. It's not a true sim but at the same time not an Arcade game which makes it so much fun. F1 2011 is probably one of the best F1 games in a long time and is also a good racing game. If you like F1 you'll get masses of enjoyment from everything F1 in it and if you don't follow F1 that much you'll still enjoy it as a great racing game.
I for one love Dirt 3 compared to 2. I just love the way it looks and handles. Definitely addicting and plenty of game modes. That Gymkhana is so much fun in multi-player! I am glad you said that, I still love Rallisport Challenge with my old Xbox racing wheel.
Cheers for the help guys. In the end I was about to buy them then my wallet said no =/ Oh well... maybe they will be on sale again closer to Christmas.
Why don't people purchase the physical games as you could buy Dirt 3 and F1 2011 new for about 6 quid more then the steam sale and if you disliked them then you could sell them for currently little loss to CEX for 23 quid (at the moment..) as opposed to the zero you would get from the steam games...
Yep, Jamtext does have a very good point. Digital Downloads are a rip off. For only a little more you can own something real. One reason why I have never bought and never will buy any Games on Demand. Xbox live Arcade is different though because there is no physical copy to be had Yakumo
meh I got Arkham Asylum for £3.75 but a physical copy costs 3x as much. Part of the reason I made the thread though is because the discount offered or the overall price isn't as cheap as I've usually been paying on Steam. Most titles I purchase are under a tenner. It's a real shame that by the time I decided to take the plunge I had no money left... it may have something to do with me going to watch Immortals with my cousin (and paying him in) then Nandos for his 28th Birthday but meh.
Well, if you do find some cash I'd get Dirt 3 over F1. You really have yo be an F1 fan to enjoy that game. Afterall, F1 tracks all look pretty much the same. I'm a massive car nut but even I get tired of F1 games faster than any other sort of car racer. Yakumo
Just as a heads up I just got Colin McRae DiRT 2 @ £3.75 in the Direct2Drive Daily deal. I'm looking forwards to playing it, especially as it has the following loveliness. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for DiRT 3 and F1 2011 going back on sale this christmas. Maybe if there is cross platform support for online play we can have a game? EDIT: I'm loving DiRT 2! Though accidentally hitting LB to change camera angle is somewhat annoying. What would be the best wheel to get for it? Also any idea if the super fangled Xbox 360 wheel works on PC?
