Are fat PS2 UK power cords nowhere to be found?

    Hey folks,

So I already have a PS2 slim which is fine but I like the solidity of the original fat model, and a friend gave me one but without any leads. I know I can use the component cables for the slim on the fat, but I'm having trouble pinning down the power cable I need. I understand the slim runs on different voltage, so the cable for the slim won't work on the fat.

Trouble is, looking on eBay comes up blank, either only slim power cords, or fat cords from the US, which is less than helpful.

Can someone point me in the direction of where I can find a UK power cord for a fat PS2? It's model 300003r, if that helps.

    Thanks :)

You can use any power chord with the same connection, well i did and never ran into any problems same with the slim PS3. It's a pretty common lead

Ah, so you're saying the Slim power cord *does* work with the fat? I was warned a while ago that doing so would burn out the Fat?

A figure 8 lead is a figure 8 lead and most UK ones will have a 3A fuse in them, so can be used for any purpose. Higher power appliances (kettles, toasters, hairdryers, etc) generally have 13A fuses.

Even if it wasn't compatible, it wouldn't "burn out" the fat PS2, it would just blow the fuse - they're installed in the lead itself as a safety measure.

What? Any standard IEC 50320 C7 'figure-of-8' 230V mains lead (sometimes called a Telefunken connector) will work. You can get them for an extortionate price in Maplin, but you can probably get them from any video game or computer shop, maybe your local pound shop... or just use one from a radio, games console, Sky box, DVD player etc.

It's a fat PS2. It's a regular figure 8 lead. All he has to do is just grab any one lying around the house, stick in in the back of the PS2 and turn it on.

Yes, the slim and fat use different voltages, but the connectors on the back of the consoles are also different. The slim power brick takes the 240V from the mains and converts it to 8.5V to supply to the slim. The fat essentially has the power brick built into the console - the lead which goes from the mains to the slim power brick is just the same one as you'd use to directly plug in the fat console.

Thanks Marmotta, that saves me the expense of buying a new one then! Just pack away the slim's power brick. Sorted!

PS2 Slim PSU is multivoltage, dunno about Fat, maybe not. If you live in a country with 110V it won't work.
