Does the nature of the control somehow limit the ability of good players ?

Or was capcom being greedy and was trying to reach a broader audience?

The average Wii consumer is considered less skillful than the average GC consumer? o_O

had they only realized that there are more RE4 fans than House of the Dead fans :p

I think someone needs to explain to them the difference between an 'easy' game and a 'simple' game. Simple games can be very challenging and difficult - easy games are just lame, despite their potential complexity.

Then again, a full blown RE4-style game would have taken them longer to produce, making it a more expensive project.

Honestly we have yet to see a really complex and difficult game in the Wii...

Playing red steel is nowhere near to what the trailers (with the sword moving exactly like the wiimote) make you believe it was, and even Gundam looks like a very slow VirtualON with basic wiimote functions. No wonder why most Wii games are below or slightly above the 8 mark in almost every review...

More than being easy, games are barely innovative at all, and the control is so simple that it makes the wiimote look like a gimmick thats not worth the sacrifice (ie: having bad graphics).

The irony is that nintendo didnt made a great effort this time with the Wii, after all is a GC with an even higher price tag, so you can see the irony in that 3rd party games are also kinda tacky compared to those in other consoles, with (relatively) high prices too.

One doubt: is this Umbrella Chronicles going to be a 100% new game? or some sort of revamped RE4, like a 2.0 version?

This is what happens when gamers run out and buy nintendogs & brain age in large numbers. Most 3rd party publishers are gearing their DS & Wii software more twards the kids market then the hardcore market.

It's a light gun game (new game and not a port).

just like Super smash bros brawl, F-zero could choose GC pad controls.

I have to say, after the initial novelty of it all wears off, the main Wii feature that's still amusing is the tilt functionality and that's it. The pointer is pretty shitty, the flailing the controllers about is pretty stupid too. Just the Wiimote isn't so bad, but when you have to point, flail 2 things around, use a poorly placed analog stick, etc... it sucks. Just my personal opinion.

heh, the wii is looking more like the ds's launch, fairly shitty first gen games, that took little of the system's ability, however, by the second/third generation, the ds had some amazing games. I think dev's are still experimenting with the wii, and after the consumers decide what style of game they want, then we'll get some killer titles

I second Ryan, I first had doubts about the DS, yet by now it is my favorite console and almost all the games I cop are for that system. Give the Wii some time.

I for one am glad as hell I waited before I went and bought one. I'll buy one when the interesting games arrive(and hopefully some cool colors ^_^ ).

I m with Giel and Bryan regarding the DS. Although at the beggining i felt it was a gimmick, now I find myself enjoying its games - whether for the stylus or not , for example Yoshi's Island DS on one hand , and Hotel Dusk on the other.

The Wii needs some graphic adventures, like a monkey island compilation with Gim Fandango thrown-in. Can you imagine the love?

I third Ryan ... I think most developers waited how the wii would sell before developing "expensive" (to develop) games ... so they made poor ports of games which could be done fast and cheap ... as so many systems were sold, Developers will begin to support it better and also put more money into development of titles, so we hopefully will get better games soon ... (at the moment there's no title I would like to buy which I don't already have and I have 7 games for the wii ... still play the old xbox (not 360) more often)

I don't draw a connection between NDS and Wii. Nintendo DS's touchscreen was not that unusual and it has good uses and isn't that difficult to use at all. Plus the system has a healthy selection of standard games like Mega Man ZX, Castlevania, Mario Kart, etc. Wii is completely different and pretty much says fuck conventional gaming that we all love. I still plan to sell my Wii system. Probably buy some retro games with the money. Getting a nice Sega Genesis, NES, and SNES collection is more interesting than the Wii. I outta add a PC-Engine to that sometime again anyway.

Wii will never have "killer" titles for me. The whole concept is flawwed. I can't see much more than a few interesting good uses. Thanks to Wii having next to no regular control style games it will limit its success.

Those ds games you mentioned, were released in the DS's second and third generation of games. If you look back at the ds's original launch, 90% of the games available at launch were either ports, or games with tacked on ds functions. Its the same way the wii is now. Give the wii some time, if by this time next year, the substance still isnt there in titles, then perhaps, make some assumptions

I say its still too early to judge any of the next gen consoles

    Welcome to the club...

Since I bought a car that my games and hardware budget is drained, but I may get some money for the 65nm X360, and maybe even a Wii (but that depends on what I'm going to say now)

I wouldnt day the Wii is like the DS, theres some critical differences between the two.

To start, the DS was coming to a market completely dominated by nintendo, while the Wii looks like nintendo's last stand in a console market were they barely had any participation with the GC.

The DS launch wasnt as hyped as the Wii's, and games were tacky too, but the PSP catalog was and still is kinda bad, plus that console was almost twice the MSRP of the DS, and had some drawbacks like short bettery life and long loading times.

The Wii was released a little before the PS3, with few games (with the best one, Zelda, being a port) to compete against the X360 (which isnt too far in price) and almost no killer games to come, only MBG, which only time will tell if its good or bad.

If you ask me, the current situation of the Wii is what nintendo wants: not a console per se but some kind of glorified interactive toy for casuals and not gamers.

For someone who doesnt play games in the traditional way the Wii may have one of the shortest learning curves ever, since while controls arent exactly precisse, the wiimote is pretty intuitive and easy to use.

So basically, the Wii is not a console for us, is a console for them...

    I eerily agree with that.

However, the Wii will become all the more relevant (to me anyhow) when the heavy hitters (read: mostly Nintendo games) come out later in the year and onward. As of right now, it's collecting dust. >:3 I've had patience before, so this is just me cycling through...

I've had a Wii for almost a week. I've played it maybe 3 or 4 times. It just gets boring really quickly. Sonic and the Secret Rings is just a more awkward version of Sonic Heroes, but without the switching characters. It's a pain to move backwards, its annoying to jump and the Wiimote adds nothing to the gameplay. It's everything I feared the Wii would do, take a game that could and should be good, and ruin it because of its control system. Ewww!

I felt the same way about Super Mario 64 DS opethfan. That didn't stop the DS bringing some trully kick-ass games (although many favourites still play using the classic gameplay mechanics)
