hey guys i have another question about the legendary genesis. according to this guide: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showth...-good-Genesis-1s-and-Genesis-2s-from-bad-ones there are two variants of the non hd model 1 with one being much better then the other. the good non hd model 1 apparently has the same video chip and sound chip as the hd model 1? i ask because you can find these non hd model 1s on ebay for much cheaper then the hd model 1s and if its just as good i see no point in spending more. i wouldn't mind having another model 1 with great sound and no rainbow banding in the composite picture. does this mean if i get a the " correct" non hd model 1 it will be just as good as the HD model 1? thank you!
You mean the VA6 mainboard. It's a good revision without any major issues. It does come with the annoying TMSS but sound and video are fine.
i guess specifically the VA6.5 VA6.8 motherboards. that guide doesn't make it completely clear that buying the correct non hd model 1 gets you one of these motherboards, but i think that's what their saying. i would be willing to live with the tmss screen for some rainbow banding free composite, as long as it still had the same great sound found in the hd models. thanks
Well, you'll still get a bit of rainbow banding and the sound somehow isn't as "rich" as it is on my VA3 but overall they're good boards. I only know of regular VA6 boards by the way. They're very common though, especially in Europe. I've seen about 10 non HD consoles and they were all VA6. Hope that helps
