Today I decided to create a better case for my Genesis Everdrive, as the one that Stoneagegamer supplied (it was a pre-made case by them) was made kind of poorly. Don't get me wrong, they are a very good website and retailer, but my everdrive purchase through them had a VERY rushed casing....they kind of just hacked the top of the cart with a knife Anyway, I had a Ms. Pacman cart laying around and decided to use it for the everdrive. Broke out my trusty dremel and made a really nice SD slot and room for the pause button. But, when I went to drop the board in, the holes seemed to be a millimeter or so off on both sides where it enters the screw posts. I actually had to file down the posts somewhat to get the board to fit, and even had to file down a millimeter or so on the casing where the cartridge pins rest. Why is that? The case seems mint to me and was not warped or anything. Has anyone else encountered this? I thought the board would just drop in without that type of modification.
Yes some of original cases were not cut very well. I did a lot of experimenting on which dremel bits to use to would get the best results. Many of these cases were experiments. This is why I sold the original EverDrive a bit cheaper than I was originally going to sell it for. I can't say the newer ones are perfect, but they are much better than originals. Please understand I also have to cut a lot of these. Unfortunately I cannot sit there and get it perfect. No matter what its always going to look like something cut into it somewhat. To get these injected molded with the slot would require me to order thousands of plastic shells to make the price per shell reasonable. This is one reason why PowerPaks are so expensive. I can't justify this at this point in time.
Oh, I definitely realize that you have to go through many cases It was in no way at all a shot at you or anything. What you sold/sell definitely gets the job done, but I am just a perfectionist when it comes to this stuff. I used the dremel as well. I found that using three of the disc attachments together gives a perfect SD card width and height in one simple shot. Thanks for the replies guys!
I used a columns genesis shell to house my everdrive but when i put the board in after making the pause button hole the case will not close around it properly. It seems the chips on the rear top left side of the board are not sitting low enough and the back part of the case where the indent is to grip the cart is hitting it. Is the reason that the shell is not made in China? (it's actually one made in Thailand). I don't want to ruin another games' shell for nothing, help me please.
Something wrong with shell then. All you should need to get board to fit into shell with PCB 2.4 is hole for SMS pause button.
I tested two shells, from Sonic EUR (fits perfectly) and from tototek card (also fits perfectly even it's not standard shell). You probably have really weird shells.
I can get the case to close but when the screws are tightened either the top or the bottom will open slightly depending on which side you are holding. Only slightly but it is moving, I think maybe the tabs which are on the sides of the screw holes that the pcb rests on may need filing down a little bit as this is where the board seems to pivot when its closed. However i was under the impression all game shells would fit with no problems.
The SMS pause button is a tight fit in the cart shells, it hits the front inside of the cart. A slight variance from the regular cart mold could cause what you are saying.
PCB indeed moves in plastic case but very slightly so when you assemble case and use screws that PCB will be hold tight. So far I don't have any problems.
