Anyone still able to rent consoles at their local rental place? I remember that blockbuster once upon a time did this. When I was a kid and I used to go for vacation I wasn’t allowed to bring my entire console because of the way it was hooked up so we used to rent from blockbuster on the vacation. Do any blockbusters or anywhere still do this…? Being in university its gets annoying moving my consoles back and forth each time I visit home.
I don't think so, I really wish they did. It was so cool when I didnt have the money to get a console i could rent it. I rented a GBA just like the one i have now and I might have rented an N64.
The best was when you go skiing or any remote place from home and realize you should have brought your game system. And then while looking for a movie you found that they rented systems. Those were the days
Ah, this brings back some memories... Me and my brother would save up money from doing chores and rent a Nintendo 64 or an SNES. I remember playing Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire at like 7am...waking up before everyone else. Blockbluster doesn't rent consoles anymore. Could you imagine them renting out 360s and PS3s? It'd be a lot of work. People making profiles, putting music and videos on the consoles, changing settings, people wanting to play online and crap. I don't it think it would work today with the current gen. It's not as simple is putting a cartridge or disc in anymore.
I used to rent a Sega CD from BB with sonic CD and Double Switch (and yes, I thought it was cool at the time). The good ol' days.
There is a badass place in Helena, Montana called Playtime Video that rented systems for 5$ for 2 days, Games 1$ for 2 days, and old games like NES for .50 for 2 days. It was heaven growing up, but I dunno if the prices are the same.
Dude really? You mean rogers video ? Hey next time you rent a video, think you could post a camera phone picture of the video game system rental area?
I just talked to a buddy of mine who worked there (until a few weeks ago) and he said they don't rent out PS3s, but for 360s:
I remember when they used to rent consoles, but I don't think I ever did. I might have rented a N64 or Playstation at some point and don't remember, but I don't think I ever did. I agree that today renting systems probably would be risky. It seems to me that systems got more fragile and people got less respectful of things and abused them more. That and the 360's spontanious break downs would really suck.
I remember in the UK when Blockbuster started to rent consoles, sure it was DC and PS1 that they used to take a £50 deposit But they didn`t think until a few days after the rentals were due back nothing appeared. And of course they should have noted this as a £300 console for £50!!!! Otherwise don`t know of anyone in the UK that does as last gen systems can be got so cheap now with trade in stuff at bigger stores that no point and to much capital tied up in consoles that can disappear unless people payt a £300+ deposit and who would has that would buy a machine
Well maybe for like vaccation vaccation like when your off school 3 weeks, But when you come home for like 3 days periods... Its just really annoying to wait in the damn customer service line when you've got so little time already at home.
Not neccesarilly, couldn't they just hold your credit card number? And bill it if you didn't return it? EDIT: sorry for the conseutive post..
The deposit fee always made me stray away from renting a console. But my cousin did for sega cd and n64. I always liked the padded cases they made for it. What ever happen to when you rented a game you got the manual with it?
Those padded cases you speak of sure are nice. I reciently went to these peoples house who used to own an old game store that went out of buisness...I got a genesis model 1 console in one of those rental cases...love that hard case. I keep that one all boxed up in the case incase I needa go somewhere...I can take that with me all ready and leave my x'eye here at home. Quite convinient
